  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Check the MAP with the scan tool or the HDS. Is about 101 kPa (760 mmHg, 30 in.Hg) or 2.9 V indicated? YES -Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAP sensor and at the PCM. NO -Go to step 3.
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4. Disconnect the MAP sensor 3P connector.
  5. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  6. Measure voltage between MAP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. Is there about 5 V? YES -Go to step 8 . NO -Go to step 7.
  7. Measure voltage between PCM connector terminals C19 and C7. Is there about 5 V? YES -Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C19) and the MAP sensor. NO -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If normal MAP is indicated, replace the original PCM.
  8. Check the MAP with the scan tool or the HDS. Is about 2 kPa (15 mmHg, 0.6 in.Hg) or less, or 0 V indicated? YES -Go to step 9. NO -Replace the MAP sensor.
  9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  10. Disconnect PCM connector C (31P).
  11. Check for continuity between MAP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair short in the wire between the PCM (C17) and the MAP sensor. NO -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If normal MAP is indicated, replace the original PCM.

  1. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
  2. Check the MAP with the scan tool or the HDS. Is about 101 kPa (760 mmHg, 30 in.Hg) or higher, or about 2.9 V or higher indicated? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAP sensor and at the PCM.
  3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  4. Disconnect the MAP sensor 3P connector.
  5. Connect MAP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3 with a jumper wire.
  6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  7. Check the MAP with the scan tool or the HDS. Is about 101 kPa (760 mmHg, 30 in.Hg) or higher or 2.9 V or higher indicated? YES -Go to step 8. NO -Replace the MAP sensor.
  8. Remove the jumper wire.
  9. Measure voltage between MAP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. Is there about 5 V? YES -Go to step 10. NO -Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C7) and the MAP sensor.
  10. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  11. Connect PCM connector terminals C7 and C17 with a jumper wire.
  12. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  13. Check the MAP with the scan tool or the HDS. Is about 101 kPa (760 mmHg, 30 in.Hg) or higher, or about 2.9 V or higher indicated? YES -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If normal voltage is indicated, replace the original PCM. NO -Repair open in the wire between the PCM (C17) and the MAP sensor.

DLC Circuit Troubleshooting

If the PCM does not communicate with the scan tool, HDS or I/M test equipment, do this troubleshooting procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  2. Measure voltage between data link connector (DLC) terminal No. 16 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 16 and the ACGS (15A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
  3. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 4 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 4. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 4 and body ground.
  4. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 16. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 5 and body ground.
  5. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 8.5 V or more? YES -Go to step 10 . NO -Go to step 6.
  6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  7. Disconnect the PCM connector A (32P).
  8. Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES -Repair short to ground in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the PCM (A21). NO -Go to step 9.
  9. Check for continuity between DLC terminal No. 7 and PCM terminal A21. Is there continuity? YES -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original PCM. NO -Repair open in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and the PCM (A21).
  10. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  11. Disconnect the PCM connector A (32P).
  12. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
  13. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and No. 7. Is there 0V? YES -Substitute a known-good PCM and recheck (see «HOW TO SUBSTITUTE THE PCM FOR TESTING»(ref-173995-S22023424662005041500000) ). If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original PCM. NO -Repair short to power in the wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and PCM (A21).

  1. Relieve fuel pressure (see «FUEL PRESSURE RELIEVING»(ref-174005-S05905615012005042700000) ).
  2. Remove the intake manifold (see «INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-173990-S36628467322005041500000) ).
  3. Disconnect the connectors from the injectors (A).
  4. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts (B) from the fuel rail (C).
  5. Remove the fuel rails.
  6. Remove the injectors from the fuel rails.
  7. Slide new cushion rings (A) onto the injectors (B).
  8. Coat the new O-rings (C) with clean engine oil, and put them on the injectors.
  9. Insert the injectors into the fuel rail (D).
  10. Coat new seal rings (E) with clean engine oil, and press them into the intake manifold.
  11. Install the fuel rail in the intake manifold.
  12. Install the fuel rail mounting bolts.
  13. Install the connectors on the injectors.
  14. Install the intake manifold and the intake manifold cover.
  15. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel pressure in the fuel line rises. Repeat this 2 or 3 times, then check for fuel leakage.
