CHARGING CIRCUIT

If the charging system indicator does not illuminate or does not go off, or the battery is dead or low, test the following items in the order listed below

  1. Battery
  2. Charging System Indicator
  3. Alternator and regulator circuits
  4. Alternator control system

BRUSH

Measure the length of both brushes "A" with a vernier caliper "B". (Scheme 24) If either brush is shorter than the service limit, replace the brush holder assembly. If brush length is OK, go to ROTOR SLIP RING.

ROTOR SLIP RING

  1. Check that there is continuity between the slip rings. If there is continuity, go to next step. If there is no continuity, replace the rotor assembly.
  2. Check that there is no continuity between each slip ring and the rotor and the rotor shaft. If there is no continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, replace the rotor assembly.
  3. Assemble the alternator in reverse order of disassembly. Be careful not to get any grease or oil during reassembly.
