Brake Fluid Replacement/Air Bleeding
Brake fluid replacement and air bleeding procedures are identical to the procedures used on vehicles without the VSA system (see BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING ).
Steering Angle Sensor Replacement
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
Note. Do not damage or drop the combination switch as the steering angle sensor is sensitive to shock and vibration.
Scheme 78
- With the wheels in the straight-ahead position and the steering wheel centered, remove the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL»(ref-360267-S38670080522010042800000) ).
- Remove the steering column covers (see «GLOVE BOX STRIKER REPLACEMENT»(ref-360309-S24245984022010042800000) ) and the cable reel (see «CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT»(ref-360291-S36823172832010042800000) ).
- Remove the combination switch assembly (see step 13 «REMOVAL»(ref-360267-S25324791652010042800000) ).
- Remove the combination light switch (A) and the wiper/washer switch (B) from the combination switch body assembly (C).
- Install the combination switch body assembly in the reverse order of removal. NOTE: Do not remove the steering angle sensor from the combination switch body. When installing the cable reel, set the turn signal canceling sleeve position so that the arrow points straight up (see «CABLE REEL REPLACEMENT»(ref-360291-S36823172832010042800000) ). Note that the tightening order is specified for the combination switch mounting screws (see «STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-360267-S10391407342010042800000) ).
Yaw Rate-Lateral Acceleration Sensor Replacement
Note. Do not damage or drop the sensor as it is sensitive. Do not use power tools.
Scheme 79
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the center console (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-360315-S01822133382010042800000) ).
- Remove the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor (A) mounting bolts.
- Disconnect the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector (B).
- Check for deformation in the bracket (C). If necessary replace it.
- Install the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor in the reverse order of removal.
- Do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization (see «YAW RATE-LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-360304-S28032648402010042800000) ).
VSA Modulator-Control Unit Removal and Installation
Note. Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint; if brake fluid gets on the paint, wash it off immediately with water. Be careful not to damage or deform the brake lines during removal and installation. After removal, plug the ends of the hoses and joints to prevent spilling brake fluid.
Scheme 80
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector (A) by pushing the lock (B) and pulling down the lever (C); the connector disconnects itself.
- Disconnect the six brake lines from the VSA modulator-control unit. NOTE: Brake lines are connected to the master cylinder (D) and to the left-front (E), the right-front (F), the left-rear (G), and the right-rear (H) brake systems.
- Remove the 6 x 16 mm flange bolt (I), then remove the VSA modulator-control unit (J) with the bracket (K) from the body.
- Remove the receiver line (L) from the bracket, then remove the clips (M).
- Remove the VSA modulator-control unit from the bracket.
Installation
- Install the VSA modulator-control unit onto the bracket.
- Install the bracket with the VSA modulator-control unit to the body.
- Reconnect the six brake lines, then tighten the flare nuts to the specified torque.
- Align the connecting surface of the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector to the VSA modulator-control unit.
- Pull up the lever of the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector, then confirm the connector is fully seated.
- Bleed the brake system (see «BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING»(ref-360266-S31123871022010042800000) ).
- Do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization procedure (see «YAW RATE-LATERAL ACCELERATION SENSOR REPLACEMENT»(ref-360304-S28032648402010042800000) ).
- Start the engine, and check that the ABS and the VSA indicators go off.
- Test-drive the vehicle, and make sure that the ABS and the VSA indicators do not come on.
Note. If the brake pedal is spongy, there may be air trapped in the modulator which could then be induced into the normal brake system during modulation. Bleed the brake system again (see BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING ).
Scheme 81
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the front wheels.
- Remove the grommet (A), then disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector (B).
- Remove the bolt and the bracket (C), the clip (D), and the grommet (E).
- Remove the bolt and the wheel speed sensor (F).
- Install the wheel speed sensor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items: Do not twist the sensor wires. If the wheel speed sensor comes in contact with the hub bearing unit, it is faulty. Make sure the grommet is installed properly. Make sure there is no debris in the sensor mounting hole.
- Start the engine, and make sure the ABS and the VSA indicators go off.
- Test-drive the vehicle, and make sure the ABS and the VSA indicators do not come on.
