Note. Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to '01-03 models. Information marked with double asterisks (**) applies to '04-05 models.

  1. Reset the ECM/PCM (see «HOW TO RESET THE ECM/PCM»(ref-173106-S10389340332005031000000) ).
  2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on.
  3. Test-drive in S (M/T in 3rd gear). Starting at 1,600 rpm, accelerate using wide open throttle for at least 5 seconds. Then decelerate for at least 5 seconds with the throttle completely closed until the A/F monitor readiness code is set to complete or Temporary DTC P1164 (P2A00)* comes on.
  4. Check for a Temporary DTC with the HDS or a scan tool. Is Temporary DTC P1164* (P2A00)** indicated? YES - Replace the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) (see «Primary HO2S and A/F Sensor Replacement»(ref-173107-S03768689142005031000000) ). NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/F sensor relay, at the A/F sensor (Sensor 1) and at the ECM/PCM.
