Parking Brake

With the ignition switch in RUN or START, and the parking brake switch closed, the brake warning light operates to remind the driver that the parking brake is applied.

Circuit Check

With the ignition switch in START voltage is applied through the No. 2 (10A) fuse in the dash fuse box to the circuit check built into the integrated control unit. The circuit check transistor is on, and current flows through the No. 1 (10A) fuse in the dash fuse box, the brake warning light and the circuit transistor to ground. The brake warning light operates. This operation tests the brake warning circuit and bulb.

Civic & Civic Wagon

With the ignition switch in RUN or START, voltage is applied to the beeper/timer of the integrated control unit. When you unbuckle the drivers seat belt, the beeper/timer circuit senses ground. With voltage at the B6 terminal and ground at the B14 terminal, the seat belt beeper sounds and the timer contacts close and open. This causes the seat belt warning light to flash on and off. After 5 seconds the alarm stops and the contacts remain open.

Civic

When the ignition key is turned from II to O position but not removed, voltage is applied through the No.12 (15A) fuse in the dash fuse box or No. 34 (10 A) fuse in the main fuse box (USA) and the closed ignition key switch to the key-on beeper in the integrated control unit. When you open the drivers door, the beeper circuit senses ground through the closed door switch. With voltage at the A3 terminal and ground at the A1 terminal, the beeper sounds.

Civic Wagon

When the ignition key is turned from II to O position but not removed, voltage is applied through the No.12 (15A) fuse (Canada) in the dash fuse box or No. 34 (10 A) fuse (USA) in the main fuse box and the closed ignition key switch to the key-on beeper in the integrated control unit. When you open the drivers door, the beeper circuit senses ground through the closed door switch. With voltage at the A3 terminal and ground at the A2 terminal, the beeper sounds.

Civic CRX

When the ignition key is turned from II to O position but not removed, voltage is applied through the No.12 (15A) fuse in the dash fuse box or No. 34 (10 A) fuse in the main fuse box and the closed ignition key switch to the key-on beeper in the integrated control unit. When you open the drivers door, the beeper circuit senses ground through the closed door switch. With voltage at the A3 terminal and ground at the A1 or A2 terminal, the beeper sounds.

Park/Off

When the wiper switch is turned off, the integrated control unit provides ground for the windshield wiper motor. When the cam switch on the motor signals the integrated control unit that the wipers are in the park position, the control unit removes the ground from the motor: the wipers stop in park position.

Intermittent

When the wiper switch is moved to INT, battery voltage is applied through the GRN wire to the integrated control unit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . The integrated control units intermittent wiper relay circuit provides ground to the low speed windings of the wiper motor, and the wipers make a single sweep about every five seconds.

OIL PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM

With the engine running and normal oil pressure, the oil pressure switch is open and the oil pressure warning light does not operate. If engine oil pressure falls below 29 kPa (4.3 psi), the oil pressure switch is closed, current flows through the oil pressure warning light and the oil pressure switch to ground, and the oil pressure light goes on.

INPUT TESTS

Remove the dashboard lower panel and dash fuse box, then disconnect the 10-P connector from the integrated control unit. (Scheme 6) Remove the integrated control unit from the dash fuse box.

Make the following input tests at the harness pins. If all tests prove OK, yet the system still fails to work, replace the control unit.

Note. Several different wires have the same color. They have been given a number suffix to distinguish them (for example BLU/WHT 1 and BLU/WHT 2 are not the same).

IGNITION KEY SWITCH

  1. Remove the dashboard lower panel, then disconnect the 5-P connector from the main wire harness. (Scheme 12)
  2. There should be continuity between the BLU/WHT and WHT/BLU terminals when the ignition switch is turned from "II" to "O" position. There should be no continuity when the ignition key is removed.

  1. Remove the steering column lower cover. Then disconnect the 5-P connector from the main wire harness. (Scheme 13)
  2. Remove the key switch from the key cylinder by removing attaching screw.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedures.
