TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING
Note. When Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) is in program mode and receives first transmitter input, all previous transmitters are erased. All transmitters must be programmed.
TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION
Resynchronization may be necessary due to security methods used by Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system. Transmitters do not send the same signal twice. Receiver control module will not respond to a signal it has been sent previously preventing recording and playback of transmitter signal. Resynchronization will be necessary if any of the following occur
- Transmitter battery is very weak.
- Transmitter battery is changed.
- Vehicle battery has been discharged for an extended period of time.
To resynchronize transmitter to receiver control module, stand within 5 feet of vehicle and simultaneously depress and hold LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on transmitter for 7 seconds. Door locks should cycle to confirm resynchronization.
KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM INOPERATIVE
- If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, see «DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-4700-S29899275412000081800000) under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- Close all vehicle doors. Press LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on both front door lock switches. If all doors lock and unlock with door switches, go to next step. If all doors do not lock and unlock with door switches, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
- Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 8.
- If none of the buttons sound tone or illuminate the Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, go to step 7.
- Replace battery in transmitter, and then go to next step.
- Replace transmitter, and then go to step 11.
- Press PANIC (horn symbol) button on transmitter. If panic function operates normally, go to next step. If panic function does not operate normally, go to step 11.
- Perform synchronization procedure. See «TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION»(ref-4700-S23885815332000080800000) under PROGRAMMING. If door locks cycle, go to next step. If door locks do not cycle, go to step 11.
- Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all transmitter functions do not operate normally, go to next step. If all transmitter functions operate normally, go to step 24.
- Reprogram all transmitters. See «TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING»(ref-4700-S19477836882000071800000) under PROGRAMMING. If door locks do not cycle, go to next step. If door locks cycle, go to step 24.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). Connect test light between RCDLR connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire) and ground. (Scheme 13) If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 22.
- Connect test light between RCDLR connector terminal No. 4 and battery voltage. (Scheme 13) If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 23.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Using DVOM, measure voltage between RCDLR connector terminals No. 2 (Orange wire) and 4 (Black wire). (Scheme 13) If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 17.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Connect test light between RCDLR connector terminals No. 2 (Orange wire) and 4 (Black wire). (Scheme 13) If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 18.
- Check Orange wire between RCDLR and Body Control Module (BCM) for short to power. If problem was found, repair as necessary, and then go to step 24. If problem was not found, go to step 19.
- Check Orange wire between RCDLR and BCM for short to ground, open or high resistance. If problem was found, repair as necessary, and then go to step 24. If problem was not found, go to step 19.
- Check RCDLR connector for poor connections. If problem was found, repair as necessary, and then go to step 24. If problem was not found, go to step 20.
- Check BCM connectors for poor connections. If problem was found, repair as necessary, and then go to step 21.
- Replace RCDLR. See «REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER»(ref-4700-S12792899962000071800000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program transmitters. See «TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING»(ref-4700-S19477836882000071800000) under PROGRAMMING. Go to step 24.
- Replace BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. Go to step 24.
- Repair open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between RCDLR and TBC fuse in engine wiring harness junction block. Go to step 24.
- Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between RCDLR and ground G203. Go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair.
