Removal
- Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Drain cooling system.
- Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect necessary electrical connections, fuel lines, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses and control cables from throttle body and intake manifold.
- Disconnect electrical connections from distributor. Remove timing belt. See «TIMING BELT»(ref-49003-S08349488332001011500000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector.
- Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust pipe at exhaust manifold. Lower vehicle. Remove valve cover. Loosen lock nut and rocker arm adjusting screws to ensure all valves are closed.
- Loosen cylinder head bolts evenly in 3 steps to prevent cylinder head warpage. Remove cylinder head bolts, cylinder head and gasket. Remove intake and exhaust manifolds (if necessary).
Installation
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Lubricate cylinder head bolts with engine oil before installing. Tighten cylinder head bolts in sequence to specification. (Scheme 1) See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-49003-S24116097562001011500000).
- Adjust valve clearance. See «VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT»(ref-49003-S23522838772001011500000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
- To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-49003-S24116097562001011500000).
- Before installing fuel supply line on throttle body, apply a thin coat of engine oil on "O" ring. Adjust all control cables. Refill cooling system.
