A/c-Heater System - Automatic: Overview Ford Thunderbird X

DESCRIPTION

CAUTIONWhen discharging air conditioning system, use only approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Make every attempt to avoid discharging refrigerant into the atmosphere.

Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system uses reheat method (blend-air) to provide conditioned air to vehicle interior. All airflow passes through evaporator core where it's cooled and dehumidified. Some cool dry air is reheated and blended with remaining cool air to provide desired air temperature. Blending cool and warm air is done by blend-air door, controlled by ATC.

All air in system (except MAX A/C and OFF) is drawn from outside through cowl vent into evaporator case. In MAX A/C, evaporator case inlet door is closed to block outside air. Recirculated air is normally used only during MAX A/C and OFF modes.

ATC system is fixed orifice tube, cycling clutch-type using a suction accumulator-drier and Ford's FX-15 10-cylinder compressor.
