Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart

Note. Most powertrain (P-code) DTCs are diagnosed in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) information. If the P-code retrieved is not listed below, refer to the INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS to continue diagnostics.

Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

Note. Some of these modules utilize a 5-character DTC followed by a 2-character failure-type code. The failure-type code provides information about specific fault conditions such as opens, or shorts to ground. Continuous memory DTCs have an additional 2-character DTC status code suffix to assist in determining DTC history.

Note. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , Intelligent Access (IA) with Push Button Start in ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) to review the procedures for achieving the various ignition states (ignition in accessory, ignition on, ignition start, ignition off) on vehicles with this feature.

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s): 1 (80A) 2 (80A) 33 (20A) Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 5 (10A) Wiring, terminals or connectors SJB
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  5. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM : Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM . Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition is ON. The air bag warning indicator prove-out (other indicators may NOT prove ignition is ON) confirms ignition ON. If ignition does not turn ON, refer to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-355717) to diagnose no power in RUN. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) , Inspection and Verification to establish a scan tool session.
  7. Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
  8. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB .
  9. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-355714-S05483241812010012800000) . For all other DTCs, refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(ref-355714-S02483454882010012800000) .

REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Intelligent Access (IA) in «ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS)»(ref-355719) . TEST the system for normal operation.

Pinpoint Test R: DTC U049A:68

Refer to SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS , Module Communications Network, for schematic and connector information.

Note. The ignition must be OFF to carry out the RFA module self-test.

  1. R1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN Ignition ON. Verify that there is an observable symptom present. Is an observable symptom present? Yes : GO to R2 . No : The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.
  2. R2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test. Carry out the network test. Does the IPC pass the network test? Yes : GO to R3 . No : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) .
  3. R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST Check for recorded RFA module DTCs from the self-test. Is DTC U3000:49 or DTC U3003:62 recorded? Yes : For DTC U3000:49, REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-355714-S14289957692010012800000) . For DTC U3003:62, REFER to «ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS)»(ref-355719) . No : GO to R4 .
  4. R4 RECHECK THE RFA MODULE DTCs NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the RFA module self-test. Is DTC U049A:68 still present? Yes : INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to «REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE»(ref-355714-S15857002592010012800000) . RESET the parameters in both the RFA module and the PCM. REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset - Intelligent Access (IA) in «ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS)»(ref-355719) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

PINPOINT TEST S: DTCs U1000:00, DTC U3000:49

Note. If DTC U3000:49 is present and the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module is being replaced, the fault condition must be corrected first. Failure to correct the fault condition first may cause damage to the new RFA module, resulting in a repeat repair.

Note. The ignition must be OFF to carry out the RFA module self-test.

  1. S1 REVIEW THE DTCs Review the DTCs from the RFA module self-test. Is only DTC U3000:49 present? Yes : INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to «REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE»(ref-355714-S15857002592010012800000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : CORRECT any DTCs present other than DTC U1000:00 (DTC U3000:49 may also be present). refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(ref-355714-S02483454882010012800000) . After the repair, GO to S2 .
  2. S2 CARRY OUT THE RFA MODULE SELF-TEST Carry out the RFA module self-test. Is only DTC U3000:49 present? Yes : INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to «REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE»(ref-355714-S15857002592010012800000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a fault in one of the output circuits, which is no longer present.
