Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart
Note. Most powertrain (P-code) DTCs are diagnosed in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) information. If the P-code retrieved is not listed below, refer to the INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS to continue diagnostics.
Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
Note. Some of these modules utilize a 5-character DTC followed by a 2-character failure-type code. The failure-type code provides information about specific fault conditions such as opens, or shorts to ground. Continuous memory DTCs have an additional 2-character DTC status code suffix to assist in determining DTC history.
Note. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , Intelligent Access (IA) with Push Button Start in ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) to review the procedures for achieving the various ignition states (ignition in accessory, ignition on, ignition start, ignition off) on vehicles with this feature.

Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s): 1 (80A) 2 (80A) 33 (20A) Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse 5 (10A) Wiring, terminals or connectors SJB
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM : Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM . Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition is ON. The air bag warning indicator prove-out (other indicators may NOT prove ignition is ON) confirms ignition ON. If ignition does not turn ON, refer to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-355717) to diagnose no power in RUN. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) , Inspection and Verification to establish a scan tool session.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-355713) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB .
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-355714-S05483241812010012800000) . For all other DTCs, refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(ref-355714-S02483454882010012800000) .
