Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s): 12 (20A) (no communication with the ABS module) 13 (15A) (no communication with the C-CM ) 22 (30A) (no communication with the DCSM ) 23 (7.5A) (no communication with the PCM) 32 (30A) (no communication with the DSM ) 36 (20A) (no communication with the C-CM ) 37 (10A) (no communication with the PCM) 47 (20A) (no communication with the PCM) Smart Junction Box (SJB) fuse(s): 5 (10A) (no communication with the SJB ) 11 (10A) (no communication with the 4X4 control module) 12 (7.5A) (no communication with the RFA module) 13 (5A) (no communication with the DDM ) 14 (10A) (no communication with the APIM , FDIM , GPSM , DSM ) 15 (10A) (no communication with the HVAC module) 16 (15A) (no communication with the FCIM , ILCM ) 19 (25A) (no communication with the audio DSP module) 20 (15A) (no power to scan tool) 26 (10A) (no communication with the HUD module, IPC ) 27 (20A) (no communication with the RFA module) 29 (5A) (no communication with the HUD module, IPC ) 32 (10A) (no communication with the RCM ) 34 (5A) (no communication with the ABS module, PSCM ) 35 (10A) (no communication with the 4X4 control module, PAM , SOD-L , SOD-R ) 39 (20A) (no communication with the ACM ) 43 (10A) (no communication with the HCM-2 ) 46 (7.5A) (no communication with the OCSM ) Data Link Connector (DLC) Wiring harness Wiring, terminals or connectors
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the DLC . NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM . If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM : Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM . Go To «PINPOINT TEST AE: NO POWER TO THE SCAN TOOL»(ref-355713-S26992606182010012800000) , to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- Carry out the network test. If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs and proceed to Step 6. If the network test fails, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-355713-S06587845332010012800000) to identify the module not communicating.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-355713-S31594964452010012800000) . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-355714) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-355713-S06587845332010012800000) .
DTC Charts
Note. Network DTCs (U-codes) are often a result of intermittent concerns such as damaged wiring or low battery voltage occurrences. Additionally, vehicle repair procedures such as module reprogramming often sets network DTCs. Replacing a module to resolve a network DTC is unlikely to resolve the concern. To prevent repeat network DTC concerns, inspect all network wiring, especially connectors. Test the vehicle battery, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
Note. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , Intelligent Access (IA) with Push Button Start in ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) to review the procedures for achieving the various ignition states (ignition off, ignition in accessory, ignition on, ignition start) on vehicles with this feature.
Communication Network DTC Chart
Note. This module utilizes a 5-character DTC followed by a 2-character failure-type code. The failure-type code provides information about specific fault conditions such as opens, or shorts to ground. Continuous memory DTCs have an additional 2- character DTC status code suffix to assist in determining DTC history.
