Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.

- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
- Carry out the data link diagnostics test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: CAN circuits fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-233719) . No response/not equipped for smart junction box (SJB), refer to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-233722) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-233755-S35585678212006052600000) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-233755-S26452003212006052600000) .

PINPOINT TEST E: THE ILLUMINATED ENTRY IS INOPERATIVE USING THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER/KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD
- E1 CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER Using the RKE transmitter, lock and unlock the doors. Do the doors lock and unlock? Yes : GO to E2 . No : REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-233732) to continue diagnosis of the RKE system.
- E2 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD Using the keyless entry keypad, lock and unlock the doors. Do the doors lock and unlock? Yes : GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-233755-S17225157292006052600000) . No : REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-233732) to continue diagnosis of the keyless entry keypad system.

- F1 CHECK CIRCUIT 1052 (TN/BK) Disconnect: SJB 2280a. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280a pin 13, circuit 1052 (TN/BK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : RECONNECT the SJB C2280a. GO to F2 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- F2 CHECK VOLTAGE TO BATTERY SAVER RELAY Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 14, circuit 543 (DG), component side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to F3 . No : GO to F4 .
- F3 CHECK BATTERY SAVER RELAY Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 9, circuit 705 (LG/OG), component side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No : GO to F4 .
- F4 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Dome/Map Lamp C918. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c pin 9, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and the dome/map lamp C918 pin 3, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to F5 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- F5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-233722) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

- G1 CHECK INOPERATIVE LAMP(S) NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on. Monitor the demand lamps operation while toggling each lamp switch on and off. Is the inoperative lamp the luggage compartment lamp? Yes : GO to G2 . No : GO to G7 .
- G2 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE BATTERY SAVER RELAY Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 14, circuit 543 (DG), component side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to G3 . No : GO to G9 .
- G3 CHECK CIRCUIT 543 (DG) FOR OPEN Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c pin 14, circuit 543 (DG), harness side, and the luggage compartment lamp C428 pin 1, circuit 543 (DG), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to G4 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G4 CHECK CIRCUIT 55 (BK/PB) FOR OPEN Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid C430. Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lamp C428 pin 2, circuit 55 (BK/PK), harness side and the luggage compartment lid release solenoid C430 pin 1, circuit 55 (BK/PK), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to G5 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
- G5 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR OPEN Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release solenoid C430 pin 3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to G6 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
- G6 CHECK LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SOLENOID Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between the luggage compartment lid release solenoid C430 pin 1, circuit 55 (BK/PK), harness side and ground. Does the luggage compartment lamp illuminate? Yes : REFER to «HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMS»(ref-233732) to continue diagnosis of the luggage compartment release solenoid. No : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lamp. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G7 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) FOR OPEN NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on. Disconnect the inoperative demand lamp. Measure the voltage between the inoperative demand lamp, harness side and ground. Refer to the following table for correct location, connector, pin and circuit information. - H1 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs) Use the recorded results from the smart junction box (SJB) self-test. Are any DTCs recorded? Yes : For DTCs B1314 or B1315, GO to H8 . For DTC B1322, B1330, B1334, B1338 or B1574, GO to «PINPOINT TEST C»(ref-233755-S00114589612006052600000) . For DTC B1371 or B1373, GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-233755-S17225157292006052600000) . For all other DTCs, REFER to the «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-233755-S35585678212006052600000) . No : GO to H2 .
- H2 CHECK IGNITION SWITCH PIDS Enter the following diagnostic modes on the diagnostic tool. PID/DATA Monitor and Record. Monitor the ignition switch PIDs while cycling the ignition switch through all ignition positions. Do the ignition switch states agree with the ignition switch positions? Yes : GO to H3 . No : REFER to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-233731) to continue diagnosis of the ignition switch.
- H3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1052 (TN/BK) Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280a pin 13, circuit 1052 (TN/BK), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : RECONNECT the SJB C2280a. GO to H4 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- H4 CHECK VOLTAGE TO BATTERY SAVER RELAY Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 14, circuit 543 (DG), component side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to H5 . No : GO to H8 .
- H5 CHECK BATTERY SAVER RELAY NOTE: The battery saver relay must be activated on. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 9, circuit 705 (LG/OG) component side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to H6 . No : GO to H8 .
- H6 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG) OR SHORT TO POWER Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 9, circuit 705 (LG/OG) harness side and ground. Is any voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the circuit CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No : GO to H7 .
- H7 CHECK CIRCUIT 53 FOR SHORT TO POWER Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280c pin 22, circuit 53 (BK/LB) harness side and ground. Is any voltage indicated? Yes : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test. No : GO to H8 .
- H8 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-233722) . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

- Remove the interior lamp lens. Release the lens from the switch side first.
- Release the two clips and remove the interior lamp assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Remove the cargo lamp lens.
- Release the retaining clips and remove the cargo lamp assembly Disconnect the electrical connector.
