Removal and Installation

WARNINGDo not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
CAUTIONThrottle body bore and plate area have a special coating and cannot be cleaned.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to «INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING»(ref-233699) .
  2. Remove the pin-type retainers and the accelerator cable cover.
  3. Disconnect and unclip the accelerator and speed control cables.
  4. Remove the throttle return spring.
  5. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the throttle body mounting stud.
  6. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  7. Remove the accelerator cable bracket. Remove the retaining bolts. Position aside the accelerator cable bracket.
  8. Disconnect the throttle body coolant feed and return hoses. Push the connector toward the hose to release pressure. Press the coolant hose quick-release coupling button and pull the coolant hose to disconnect.
  9. Remove the bolts, stud bolt and the throttle body. Remove and discard the throttle body gasket.
  10. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-233684) .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-233692) .
  3. Remove the wiring harness retaining nut.
  4. Disconnect the LH heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector and the pin-type retainer.
  5. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
  6. Disconnect the transaxle control and digital transaxle range (DTR) sensor electrical connectors.
  7. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the wiring harness electrical connector.
  8. Remove the wire harness bolt and bracket.
  9. Unclip the harness from the bracket.
  10. Unclip and disconnect the knock (KS) sensor electrical connector.
  11. Unclip and disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
  12. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) sensor electrical connector.
  13. Disconnect the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor electrical connector.
  14. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
  15. Unclip and disconnect the radio ignition noise suppressor and the RH heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor electrical connectors.
  16. Disconnect the ignition coil-on-plug electrical connectors.
  17. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback electrical connector.
  18. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the powertrain control (PCM) module electrical connector.
  19. Remove the bolt and disconnect the PCM wiring harness ground strap from the cowl panel.
  20. Disconnect the vapor management valve (VMV) electrical connector.
  21. Remove the RH wheel. For additional information, refer to «WHEELS & TIRES»(ref-233696) .
  22. Remove the RH inner fender splash shield. Remove the bolts. Remove the pin-type retainers. Remove the splash shield.
  23. Remove the front splash shield.
  24. Remove the starter cable cover.
  25. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter wiring.
  26. Disconnect the A/C compressor and the high-pressure switch electrical connector.
  27. Disconnect the alternator electrical connector.
  28. Disconnect the LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
  29. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector.
  30. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
  31. Unclip and disconnect the RH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
  32. Remove the fuel charging wiring harness. NOTE: One harness retainer shown, others similar. Disconnect the remaining wiring harness retainers. Remove the fuel charging wiring harness.
  33. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

WARNINGFuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE - 3.0L (4V)»(ref-233692) .
  2. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold. Remove the bolts. Separate the supply manifold from the lower intake manifold.
  3. Remove the six injectors from the lower intake manifold.
  4. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
