Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (60A) Damaged wiring harness Loose or corroded connector(s) Circuitry Smart junction box (SJB)
- If an obvious cause of an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
- Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: ISO or CAN circuits fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-233719) . No response/not equipped for SJB, GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-233722-S41063773592006052600000) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the SJB.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) INDEX»(ref-233722-S09894588382006052600000) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, refer to the appropriate article to continue diagnosis.

- A1 CHECK THE SJB POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: SJB C2280a. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280a pin 12, circuit 1001 (WH/YE), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A2 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A2 CHECK THE SJB GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Connect: SJB C2280a. Disconnect: SJB C2280c. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c pin 18, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-233719) to continue communication diagnosis. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the test.

- Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-233724) .
- Disconnect the bulkhead connectors from the smart junction box (SJB).
- Disconnect the connectors from the bottom of the SJB.
- Remove the SJB. Remove the retaining nuts. Unclip and remove the SJB.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
