Principles of Operation

Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also identified as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

Normal Operation

Fused battery voltage is supplied to the ignition switch from Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 9 (40A) along circuit SBB09 (RD). The ignition switch has 4 possible states

1. OFF
2. ACC
3. RUN
4. START This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following
5. Fuse
6. Wiring, terminals or connectors
7. Ignition switch

The ignition switch ACC circuit provides fused battery voltage along circuit CDC33 (VT/GN) to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) when the key is in the ACC position.

1. DTC B1359 (Ignition RUN/ACC Circuit Failure) - If, during normal operation the SJB detects an open or a short to ground in the RUN or ACC circuit, DTC B1359 will be set. The DTC will also be set if the SJB does not detect the RUN signal during the on-demand self test.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

1. Wiring, terminals or connectors
2. Ignition switch
3. SJB

The ignition switch RUN circuit provides fused battery voltage along circuits CDC34 (WH/OG), CDC32 (BN/YE) and CDC33 (VT/GN) to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) when the key is in the RUN position.

1. DTC B1555 (Ignition RUN/START Circuit Failure) - If, during normal operation the SJB detects an open or a short to ground in the RUN or START circuit, DTC B1555 will be set. The DTC will also be set if the SJB does not detect the RUN signal during the on-demand self test.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

1. Wiring, terminals or connectors
2. Ignition switch
3. SJB

The ignition switch START circuit provides fused battery voltage along circuits CDC35 (BU/WH) and CDC34 (WH/OG) to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) when the key is in the START position.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following

1. Wiring, terminals or connectors
2. Ignition switch
3. SJB
