REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
| WARNING | When repairing the starter motor or performing any maintenance in the area of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal after the repair. |
Scheme 23
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-268709) article.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-268774) article.
- Remove the left front inner fender splash shield.
- Remove the solenoid terminal cover from the terminals.
- Remove the solenoid terminal nuts and disconnect the solenoid electrical connections. To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Remove the ground cable retaining nut. Position the ground cable aside. To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
- Remove the 2 starter motor stud bolts, the bolt and the starter motor. To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-268774) article.
- Remove the 3 bolts and lower the starter motor. To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- Remove the solenoid terminal cover.
- Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the starter motor electrical connections. To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install the starter bolts finger tight. Tighten the upper bolt. Tighten the lower bolts.

| WARNING | When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure the protective cap is in place when maintenance is completed. |

- Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.
- Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the starter motor electrical connections. To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside. To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
- Remove the bolt, the stud bolt and the starter motor. To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install the starter bolts finger tight. Tighten the upper bolt. Tighten the lower stud bolt.
