REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-268774) .
- Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connector.
- Squeeze the locking tabs and twist while pulling upward, to disconnect the 6 spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the ignition coil. To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-268709) .
- Remove the right front tire. For additional information, refer to «WHEELS AND TIRES»(ref-268730) .
- Remove the right front fenderwell splash shield.
- With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the spark plug wires from the right side of the engine.
- With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the spark plug wires from the left side of the engine.
- Squeeze the locking tabs and twist while pulling upward, to remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coil.
- Disconnect the spark plug wires from the separators and remove the spark plug wires.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(ref-268709) .
- Remove the right front tire and wheel. For additional information, refer to «WHEELS AND TIRES»(ref-268730) .
- Remove the right front fenderwell splash shield.
- With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the spark plug wires from the right side of the engine.
- Remove the RH spark plugs. To install, tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- With a twisting motion, use the special tool to pull the spark plug wires from the left side of the engine.
- Remove the LH spark plugs. To install, tighten to 17 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- Inspect the spark plugs. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-268738) .
- Use a suitable spark plug gap tool to check and adjust the spark plug gap.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Apply silicone dielectric compound to the inside of the spark plug wire boots prior to installation.
