Steering Wheel & Steering Column Electrical Components: Overview Ford Kuga II

Steering Wheel and Column Switches Overview

The steering wheel and column switches are located on or around the steering wheel or column, giving the driver the ability to control various vehicle functions and remain focused on the task of driving. Depending on vehicle options, the steering wheel and column switches consist of the following

  1. Left multifunction switch - mounted on the left side of the steering column attached to the SASM and can be serviced separately.
  2. Right multifunction switch - mounted on the right side of the steering column attached to the SASM and can be serviced separately.
  3. Steering wheel switches - mounted on the front of the steering wheel and can be serviced separately.

Conventional Ignition Switch System Overview

The conventional ignition switch is controlled by the ignition lock cylinder and key. The ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch are connected mechanically, turning the lock cylinder places the switch into the desired position. The available ignition switch positions are

  1. OFF
  2. ACC
  3. ON
  4. START

Push Button Start Ignition Switch System Overview

The push button start ignition system is used to place the ignition in the ON or OFF mode and to start or shut off the vehicle powertrain.

B10E7:12Ignition On Relay: Circuit Short to BatterySets when the BCM detects voltage from the ignition relay output circuit when it has not activated the ignition relay.
B10E7:14Ignition On Relay: Circuit Short to Ground or OpenSets when the BCM detects no voltage from the ignition relay output circuit when it has activated the ignition relay.
B10FF:12Ignition Control: Circuit Short To BatterySets when the BCM detects a short to voltage from the ignition relay control circuit. When this DTC sets, the control side of the ignition relay is disabled via the Field-Effect Transistor (FET). Once the condition that caused the DTC to set is repaired, the ignition must be switched off and then back on for the system to resume normal operation.
B10FF:14Ignition Control: Circuit Short To Ground or OpenSets when the BCM detects no voltage from the ignition relay control circuit. When this DTC sets, the control side of the ignition relay is disabled via the Field-Effect Transistor (FET). Once the condition that caused the DTC to set is repaired, the ignition must be switched off and then back on for the system to resume normal operation.
B112A:12Ignition On Relay B: Circuit Short to BatterySets when the BCM detects a short to voltage from the RJB accessory relay control circuit. When this DTC sets, the control side of the RJB accessory relay is disabled via the Field-Effect Transistor (FET). Once the condition that caused the DTC to set is repaired, the ignition must be switched off and then back on for the system to resume normal operation.
U300A:13Ignition Switch: Circuit OpenSets during the on-demand self-test if the BCM detects no voltage from the ignition switch ON-designated circuit.

BCM DTC FAULT TRIGGER CONDITION

B108A:24Start Button: Signal Stuck HighSets continuous when the BCM detects a short to voltage (a button press) from both push button ignition switch input circuits for more than 2 minutes. A stuck button can cause this code to set.
B108B:23Start Button Circuit "A": Signal Stuck LowSets continuous when the BCM detects a short to voltage (a button press) from the SW2 circuit but no voltage from the SW1 circuit.
B108B:24Start Button Circuit "A": Signal Stuck HighSets continuous when the BCM detects a short to voltage (a button press) from the SW1 circuit for more than 60 seconds.
B108B:2FStart Button Circuit "A": Signal ErraticSets during the on-demand self-test when the BCM detects a short to voltage (a button press) from the SW1 circuit.
B108C:23Start Button Circuit "B": Signal Stuck LowSets continuous when the BCM detects a short to voltage (a button press) from the SW1 circuit but no voltage from the SW2 circuit.
