Overview - Exterior, Power

Power mirrors allow the LH or RH exterior mirror glass to be positioned electronically. The position of the power mirror glass is controlled by the exterior mirror control switch. Selecting the LH or RH position of the exterior mirror selection switch determines which power mirror glass is controlled.

Overview - Interior

The interior rear view mirror manually or automatically darkens to reduce the glare of headlights from behind the vehicle during nighttime conditions.

The vehicle may be equipped with one of the following interior rear view mirrors

  1. Manual interior day/night rear view mirror with dual pivot adjustment
  2. Auto-dimming interior rear view mirror with single pivot adjustment

The interior rear view mirror mounts to the bracket at the upper center of the windshield glass. The mirror can be adjusted left, right, up and down. The dual pivot mirror can be positioned higher or lower to accommodate different driver statures by adjusting the support arm up or down at the pivot closest to the windshield.

The LH and RH exterior mirror glass movement is controlled by the exterior mirror control switch and the LH and RH exterior mirror motors. The exterior mirror control switch receives voltage from the BJB any time the ignition is on. When the exterior mirror control switch is pressed left, right, up or down, the switch supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate exterior mirror motor.

Power Mirror Operation

When the LH or RH exterior mirror selected with the exterior mirror selection switch and the exterior mirror control switch is pressed up, down, left or right, the command is sent through a LIN circuit between the master window control switch and the DDM. If the LH mirror is selected, the DDM supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate LH exterior mirror motor. If the RH mirror is selected, the DDM sends the passenger mirror command message through the MS-CAN to the PDM . Based on the passenger mirror command message, the PDM supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate RH exterior mirror motor.

Heated Exterior Mirror Operation

The rear window defrost switch controls operation of the heated exterior mirror glass. The heated exterior mirror glass only operates when the rear window defrost system is active. For a detailed description of the rear window defrost system operation

Based on messages received from the BCM through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN), the DDM controls the operation of the LH heated exterior mirror glass and the PDM controls the operation of the RH heated exterior mirror glass.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

BJB fuse 25 (10A) supplies voltage to the exterior mirror control switch when the ignition is ON. The exterior mirror control switch supplies voltage and ground to the exterior mirror motors based on switch inputs.

Each exterior mirror shares a common circuit for both up/down and left/right movement.

The exterior mirror control switch supplies voltage and ground to the LH and RH exterior mirrors to control movement. Each mirror contains a horizontal and a vertical motor. The exterior rear view mirror switch controls movement by reversing polarity of the voltage and ground circuits being supplied to each motor.
