REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Note. The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.

Note. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

1. Depower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article.
2. Remove the 2 rear seat bolts. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
3. Remove the seat track trim cover.
4. Remove the front seat bolt. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
5. Remove the front seat nut. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
6. Tip the seat rearward and disconnect the seat harness electrical connector.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Repower the SRS. For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of «SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM»(ref-357180) article.

1. Remove the seat. For additional information, refer to «Seat - Front»(ref-357191-S24255377602010030800000) .
2. Remove the recliner lever cover. Pull up on the recliner lever to access the locking tab behind the recliner lever cover. Release the locking tab and remove the recliner lever cover.
3. If equipped, remove the seat height adjust handle. Remove the cover and seat height adjust handle screw. To install, tighten to 15 Nm (133 lb-in).
4. Remove the seat cushion side shield. Remove the 2 screws. Release the side and rear retainer clips.
5. Detach the 2 backrest trim cover elastic straps at the rear of the cushion frame.
6. Disconnect the seat side air bag module electrical connector, detach the wire harness retainers and route out from the seat cushion.
7. If equipped, disconnect the backrest heater mat electrical connector and route the wire harness from the seat cushion.
8. Release the elastic straps and position aside the cushion trim cover flaps from the recliner mechanism and backrest pivot.
9. If 2-door passenger seat, detach the seat track release cable from the backrest. Release the backrest latch and move the backrest to the full forward dump position. Detach the cable jacket from the lower clamp on the backrest recliner mechanism. Detach the cable from the upper clamp on the backrest recliner mechanism.
10. With the backrest fully forward, remove the 4 backrest-to-seat track bolts and backrest. For installation, use the following sequence: Install and hand tighten the 4 bolts. Position the backrest to the first locked recliner position. Tighten the outboard side forward bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Tighten the outboard side rearward bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Tighten the inboard side rearward bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Tighten the inboard side forward bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft).
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Make sure the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants after installation.

REMOVAL

Note. Typical head restraint guide sleeve shown in illustration, others similar.

1. Push in on the 2 head restraint guide sleeve release buttons and remove the head restraint.
2. Obtain a flat-head screwdriver with a width of 4 mm (0.157 in) to 7 mm (0.275 in) and a thickness of approximately 1 mm (0.039 in).
3. Align the screwdriver to the middle of the head restraint guide sleeve release button.
4. Position the screwdriver between the head restraint guide sleeve neck and backrest trim cover and foam pad.
5. Position the screwdriver at a 45-degree angle.
6. Push in the screwdriver, bending the lock feature on the head restraint guide sleeve in.
7. While bending the lock feature in, push down on the screwdriver handle, prying the head restraint guide sleeve up and disengaging it from the backrest frame crossmember.
8. Remove the head restraint guide sleeve. Discard the head restraint guide sleeve.
9. Repeat these steps for the head restraint guide sleeve on the opposite side.

INSTALLATION

Note. Always install new head restraint guide sleeves. Difficult adjustment of the head restraint may occur. Failure to follow these instructions may result in component failure.

Note. The head restraint guide sleeves are not interchangeable. Failure to install the correct head restraint guide sleeve at the correct position may result in component failure.

1. Make sure the holes in the backrest foam pad and backrest trim cover are aligned to the holes in the backrest frame.
2. Install the head restraint guide sleeve with the large button and wide key on the LH side of the seat.
3. Install the head restraint guide sleeve with the small button and thin key on the RH side of the seat.
4. To allow the head restraint guide sleeve to slide freely through the backrest foam pad and backrest trim cover, twist the head restraint guide sleeve while pushing it into the backrest frame hole as far as it will go with hand pressure.
5. Using a non-marring mallet, strike the top of the head restraint guide sleeve with moderate force, seating it in the backrest frame. Striking effort must be high enough to snap the head restraint guide sleeve retainer in place in the backrest frame.
6. Inspect the head restraint guide sleeve. Pull the head restraint guide sleeve out by hand, making sure it is locked in place. If the head restraint guide sleeve can be removed by hand, repeat the installation procedure. If the head restraint guide sleeve can be removed again after installing a second time, install a new head restraint guide sleeve.
7. Repeat these steps for the head restraint guide sleeve on the opposite side.
8. After installation of 2 new head restraint guide sleeves, install the head restraint in the following sequence. Position the head restraint rods to the head restraint guide sleeve holes. Push the head restraint down, guiding the rods into the head restraint guide sleeve holes. Make sure the head restraint adjusts without excessive effort and locks in place.

Note. If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat backrest pad, trim cover, side air bag module and nuts must be installed. A new seat backrest frame should be installed if necessary.

1. Remove the seat. For additional information, refer to «Seat - Front»(ref-357191-S24255377602010030800000) .
2. Remove the head restraint guide sleeve. For additional information, refer to «Head Restraint Guide Sleeve»(ref-357191-S27150397022010030800000) .
3. Release the 2 backrest trim cover elastic straps from the rear of the cushion frame. Release the side shield rear retainer to access the outboard backrest trim cover strap.
4. Release the backrest trim cover lower J-clip and partially invert the trim cover up the backrest to expose the 2 tensioning rods and hog rings. For installation, make sure the wire harness(es) is routed correctly before fastening the J-clip. Route the side air bag wire harness to the outboard side of the backrest. If equipped, route the heater mat wire harness out the inboard side of the driver seat backrest or the outboard side of the passenger seat backrest.
5. Remove the 2 hog rings attaching the tensioning rods to the lower end of the foam pad.
6. Pull out and remove the 2 tensioning rods from the backrest trim cover. For installation, make sure the upper end of each tensioning rod is positioned behind the foam pad listing wire.
7. Invert the backrest trim cover to the row of hog rings and side air bag module deployment chute.
8. Release the side air bag module deployment chute J-clips and route through the backrest foam pad and backrest frame. For installation, route the deployment chute front flap through the hole in the foam pad and wrap around the side air bag and backrest frame. For installation, route the deployment chute rear flap around the back of the foam pad and fasten the J-clips.
9. Remove the row of hog rings.
10. Release the inner backrest trim cover J-clip from the rear of the backrest frame.
11. Invert the trim cover and release the hook-and-loop strip near the top of the backrest.
12. Remove the backrest trim cover.
13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Note. Occupant classification sensor (OCS) system components (seat wiring harness, seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and occupant classification system module [OCSM]) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. The OCS system components are not to be installed separately. If a new OCS system, OCS system component or seat cushion foam pad are needed, an OCS system service kit (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor, seat wiring harness and OCSM) must be installed as an assembly.

Note. To identify between a production OCS system and an OCS system service kit, inspect the OCSM electrical connector. A production OCS system allows the disconnection of the OCSM electrical connector. An OCS system service kit has the electrical connector glued to the module, it cannot and should not be disconnected or altered.

All back rests

1. Release and fold the backrest downward.
2. Release the hook-and-loop at the lower rear outboard corner.
3. Remove the 2 backrest-to-hinge bolts. To install, tighten to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft).
4. Slide and remove the backrest from the backrest pivot bracket.
5. Remove the quarter trim panel. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-357184) article.
6. Remove the 2 backrest hinge-to-floor bolts and backrest hinge. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
7. Remove the rear seat backrest bolster. For additional information, refer to «Seat Bolster - Rear»(ref-357191-S12049723642010030800000) .
8. Remove the 2 backrest hinge-to-floor bolts and backrest hinge. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
9. With the 60 percent backrest removed, remove the 2 bolts and backrest pivot bracket. To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
10. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Make sure the safety belts and buckles are accessible to the occupants after installation.

1. Release the lower J-clip and hook-and-loop strip.
2. Separate the hook-and-loop strips and invert the backrest trim cover to the row of hog rings.
3. Remove the row of hog rings.
4. Invert and remove the backrest trim cover. Route the latch release strap through the backrest trim cover opening.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Locate the cushion latch releases under the cushion front edge. Push to release the 2 latches and remove the cushion.
2. Remove all the hog rings from the outer edge of the cushion cover.
3. Invert the cushion cover and remove all the inner rows of hog rings.
4. Remove the cushion cover.
5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the parcel shelf. For additional information, refer to «INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION»(ref-357184) article.
2. Remove the 2 bolts and backrest latch striker. For installation, position the arrow markers upward. To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Check the backrest latch operation.

1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Locate the cushion latch releases under the cushion front edge. Push to release the 2 latches and remove the cushion.
2. Remove the seat bolster nut from the lower stud. To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
3. From the luggage compartment, release the upper retainer behind the seat bolster and remove. If installing a new seat bolster, install a new upper retainer.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
