Front Seats

The front seats are equipped with the following serviceable components

1. Manual 2-way seat tracks
2. Driver seat manual height adjustment (part of optional 4-way seat track)
3. Backrest frame
4. Manual recliner (part of backrest frame)
5. Backrest static lumbar support
6. Heated seat system components (optional)
7. Backrest, cushion and head restraint trim covers
8. Head restraint guides (on backrest frame)
9. Cushion side shields
10. Backrest foam pads
11. Cushion foam pad (driver only)
12. Occupant classification sensor (OCS) (part of passenger seat cushion)
13. Side air bags (in seat back rests)
14. Safety belt buckle and pretensioners (on seat tracks)
15. Seat track position sensor (attached to driver seat track)
16. Wiring harnesses (on seat tracks)

The 2-door front seats are equipped with a backrest release lever to tip the backrest forward for easy entry to second row seating. The passenger seat also releases the seat track to slide the seat forward.

Seat Track

The front driver and passenger standard seat tracks are a 2-way manual-adjust design. An optional 4-way manual seat track is available on the driver seat that includes a height adjust handle that ratchets up or down to raise and lower the seat track. Both style front seat tracks are serviced as complete assemblies which include the cushion frames and seat mounting feet.

Manual Recline

The manual recline can be adjusted by a handle mounted on the outboard side of the cushion side shield.

Heated Seats

The components of the system are

1. the seat heater mats located in the seat cushion and backrest.
2. a thermostat in each cushion and backrest heater mat (part of heater mat).
3. a heated seat relay mounted underneath each front seat cushion.
4. the heated seat control switch, located on the HVAC module.

The cushion and backrest heater mats are serviceable separately. A heater mat can be peeled away from a foam pad and a new one adhered in its place providing excessive foam is not removed from the foam pad. A heater mat cannot be reused, as the 2-way tape adhesive will no longer hold the position on the foam pad causing it to shift or bunch up.

Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS)

Note. Occupant classification sensor (OCS) system components (seat wiring harness, seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and occupant classification system module [OCSM]) are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. The OCS system components are not to be installed separately. If a new OCS system, OCS system component or seat cushion foam pad are needed, an OCS system service kit (seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor, seat wiring harness and OCSM) must be installed as an assembly.

Note. To identify between a production OCS system and an OCS system service kit, inspect the OCSM electrical connector. A production OCS system allows the disconnection of the OCSM electrical connector. An OCS system service kit has the electrical connector glued to the module, it cannot and should not be disconnected or altered.

The OCS system is standard equipment on all front outboard passenger seats. For information on diagnosing or servicing the OCS system, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

Seat Side Air Bags

Driver and passenger seat side air bags are attached to the seat backrest frame. For diagnostic information, or if the seat side air bag has deployed, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

Safety Belt Buckle and Pretensioners

As part of the supplemental restraint system (SRS), the driver and passenger safety belt buckle are equipped with pretensioners. The safety belt buckle and pretensioner removes excess slack from the safety belt webbing. For information, or if the safety belt buckle and pretensioner has deployed, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

Rear Seats

The rear seat back rests are a split 60/40 fold flat design. The backrest latches, straps and cables are part of the backrest frames.

The rear seats are equipped with the following serviceable components

1. Backrest and cushion trim covers and foam pads
2. Backrest hinges (attached to floor pan)
3. Backrest latch strikers (attached to parcel shelf)
4. Cushion latches (located underneath cushion front edge attached to floor pan)

The HVAC module contains the heated seat switches and indicators. The heated seat system functions independently from the climate control system. The system is only operational with the engine running.

Each front seat has a heated seat relay mounted to the seat track. There are 2 voltage supplies to the heated seat relay. Voltage is supplied from the smart junction box (SJB) to each heated seat relay coil when the ignition switch is ON. Ground is supplied to the opposite side of the driver or passenger relay coil by the respective heated seat relay drive circuit output from the HVAC module when a heated seat switch button is pressed to energize the affected relay. This closes the relay contact to supply battery voltage from the SJB to the driver or passenger heater mats. The driver and passenger heater mats are connected to ground, completing the electrical circuit to heat the seats. The cushion and backrest heater mats are wired in series. Both backrest and cushion heater mats contain switch-type thermostats that open and close to regulate the seat temperature. The thermostats regulate and maintain seat temperature until switched off or the ignition switch is OFF.

Pinpoint Tests

Note. Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.
