DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX

Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s): 32 (15A) 63 (20A) Circuitry Connectors
  3. If an obvious cause of an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition switch position.
  5. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  6. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: ISO or CAN circuits fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-255415) . No response/not equipped for GEM, GO to «PINPOINT TEST A»(ref-255417-S09530049502007053100000) . System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the GEM.
  7. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(ref-255417-S29879544562007053100000) in this article.
  8. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-255417-S20497920502007053100000) .

  1. A1 CHECK THE GEM CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: GEM C201c. Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the GEM C201c-5, circuit 29-DK20 (OG/GN), harness side and ground; and between the GEM C201c-1, circuit 29-AA17 (OG/WH), harness side and ground. Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to A2 . No : VERIFY the CJB fuse(s) 32 (15A) and 63 (20A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  2. A2 CHECK THE GEM GROUND CIRCUIT 31-DK20 (BK) FOR AN OPEN Key in OFF position. Disconnect: GEM C201a. Measure the resistance between the GEM C201a-5, circuit 31-DK20 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to A3 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
  3. A3 CHECK THE GEM GROUND CIRCUIT 91-DK20 (BK/RD) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: GEM C201d. Measure the resistance between the GEM C201d-1, circuit 91-DK20 (BK/RD), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : REFER to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-255415) to continue communication diagnosis. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test. CARRY OUT the data link diagnostics test.
