Normal Operation

The speed control actuator receives a signal from the speed control switches through circuit 8-PG13 (WH) and sends a return signal through circuit 9-PG13 (BN). Voltage is supplied to the speed control switches through circuit 15-PG13 (GN/YE). Voltage to the speed control actuator is supplied through circuit 15-PG12 (GN/WH) from the battery junction box (BJB). Ground for the speed control actuator is supplied through circuit 91-PG12 (BK/WH).

  3. Circuit 9-PG13 (BN) open, short to ground or voltage
  4. Circuit 15-PG12 (GN/WH) open

  7. Clockspring

The speed control actuator adjusts the speed control cable, which controls the throttle body.

Possible Causes

  1. Speed control cable
  2. Speed control actuator

Voltage is supplied to the speed control deactivator switch through circuit 15-PG6 (GN/YE). The speed control deactivator switch sends a voltage signal through circuit 15S-PG16 (GN/YE) to the speed control actuator. When the brake pedal is applied, the voltage signal is removed from the speed control actuator and the speed control is deactivated.

Possible Causes

  1. Circuit 15S-PG16 (GN/YE) short to voltage
  2. Speed control actuator
  3. Speed control deactivator switch

Scheme 2: PINPOINT TEST C: THE SPEED CONTROL DOES NOT DISENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED
  1. C1 CHECK THE STOPLAMPS FOR CORRECT OPERATION Check the stoplamps for correct operation by firmly applying and releasing the brake pedal. Do the stoplamps operate correctly? YES : Go to C2 . NO : REFER to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-278271) article to continue diagnosis of the stoplamps.
  2. C2 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATOR SWITCH OPERATION Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Speed Control Actuator C122 Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the speed control actuator C122-9, circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/BU), harness side and the speed control actuator C122-10, circuit 91-PG12 (BK/WH), harness side while applying and releasing the brake pedal. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the brake pedal released and 0 volts with the brake pedal applied? YES : INSTALL a new speed control actuator. REFER to «Speed Control Actuator»(ref-278313-S23591189932008012400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : Go to C3 .
  3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 15S-PG16 (G/YE) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Speed Control Deactivator Switch C278 Key in ON position. Measure the voltage between the speed control actuator C122-9, circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/BU), harness side and the speed control actuator C122-10, circuit 91-PG12 (BK/WH), harness side. Is any voltage present? YES : REPAIR circuit 15S-PG16 (GN/YE). TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new speed control deactivator switch. REFER to «Speed Control Deactivator Switch»(ref-278313-S37829193792008012400000) . TEST the system for normal operation.

A clutch pedal position signal is sent to the speed control actuator through circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/BU). When the clutch pedal is applied, the speed control is deactivated.

Possible Causes

  1. Circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/BU) short to ground
  2. Speed control actuator
  3. Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch

The speed control actuator sends and receives signals to the speed control switch through circuits 8-PG13 (WH) and 9-PG13 (BN). The speed control switch receive voltage through circuit 15-PG13 (GN/YE).

  2. Speed control actuator

Scheme 3: PINPOINT TEST E: THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE
  1. E1 CHECK THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH Key in OFF position. Disconnect: Speed Control Actuator C122 Measure the resistance between the speed control actuator C122-5, circuit 8-PG13 (WH), harness side and the speed control actuator C122-6, circuit 9-PG13 (BN), harness side while pressing the speed control switch as follows: Speed Control Switch Resistance Value COAST Between 114 and 126 ohms SET/ACC Between 646 and 714 ohms RES Between 2,090 and 2,310 ohms OFF Less than 5 ohms Are the speed control switch resistance values OK? YES : INSTALL a new speed control actuator. REFER to «Speed Control Actuator»(ref-278313-S23591189932008012400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. NO : INSTALL a new speed control switch. REFER to «Speed Control Switch»(ref-278313-S29312058962008012400000) . TEST the system for normal operation.

Immediately (0.25 second) after the static test has passed, the speed control actuator will carry out a dynamic test automatically by actuating the throttle lever from 1 to 10 mm (0.04 to 0.39 inches) of travel from the idle position.

The speed control actuator receives a voltage signal through circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/YE) from the stoplamp switch when the brake pedal is applied and the clutch pedal (if equipped) is released.

  2. Circuit 15S-PG17 (GN/BU) open
  3. Speed control actuator
  4. Stoplamp switch
  5. Clutch pedal position (CPP) switch

Voltage is supplied to the speed control deactivator switch through circuit 15-PG6 (GN/YE). The speed control deactivator switch sends a voltage signal through circuit 15S-PG16 (GN/YE) to the speed control actuator. When the brake pedal is applied, the voltage signal is removed from the speed control actuator and the speed control is deactivated.

  3. Circuit 15S-PG16 (GN/YE) open
  4. Speed control deactivator switch

The speed control actuator receives a vehicle speed signal from the PCM through circuits 8-RE22 (WH/VT) and 8-PG18 (WH/BU).
