  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING»(ref-165277) .
  2. Using the special tool, disconnect the fluid cooler hose. Insert the special tool into the hose quick-release coupling. Move the special tool along the pipe to release the locking tangs. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  3. Disconnect the power steering line from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Detach the power steering line support bracket. Remove the bolts. Detach the speed control cable (if equipped).
  6. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector. Depress the locking tang.
  7. Disconnect the power steering hose from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  8. Remove the power steering pump.
  9. Remove the PSP switch.

  1. Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal onto the steering gear to power steering pump union. Push the new O-ring seal onto the special tool. Locate the special tool onto the union and install the O-ring seal.
  2. Install the PSP switch.
  3. Install the power steering pump.
  4. Connect the power steering hose to the power steering pump.
  5. Connect the PSP switch electrical connector.
  6. Attach the power steering line support bracket. Attach the bolts. Attach the speed control cable (if equipped).
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to «JACKING AND LIFTING»(/ford/focus/i-2001-2007/remont/hoistjack/#jacking-and-lifting) .
  8. Connect the power steering line.
  9. Connect the fluid cooler hose.
  10. Install the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING»(ref-165277) .
  11. Fill the power steering system.

  1. Detach the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Using a 1/2" square drive breaker bar in the hole provided, rotate the tensioner in a clockwise direction. Detach the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  2. Remove the power steering pump pulley retaining nut.
  3. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
  4. Detach the power steering fluid reservoir hose from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  5. Detach the power steering high-pressure line from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  6. Remove the power steering pump.
  7. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir to power steering pump hose union. Discard the O-ring seal.

  1. Install a new power steering fluid reservoir hose union O-ring seal.
  2. Install the power steering fluid reservoir union.
  3. Install the power steering pump.
  4. Using the special tool, install a new O-ring seal onto the power steering high-pressure line to power steering pump union. Push the O-ring seal onto the special tool. Locate the special tool onto the union and install the O-ring seal.
  5. Attach the power steering high-pressure line to the power steering pump.
  6. Attach the power steering fluid reservoir hose to the power steering pump.
  7. Install the power steering pump pulley.
  8. Attach the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley. Using a 1/2" square drive breaker bar in the hole provided, rotate the tensioner in a clockwise direction. Attach the accessory drive belt to the power steering pump pulley.
  9. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to «STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION»(ref-207742) .

  1. Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to «SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING»(ref-165277) .
  2. Detach the fender splash shield from the front bumper cover to gain access to the right-hand headlamp assembly lower retaining bolt.
  3. Remove the right-hand headlamp assembly lower retaining bolt.
  4. Using the special tool, disconnect the power steering fluid cooler line from the power steering fluid cooler. Insert the special tool into the spring lock coupling. Slide the special tool along the line to release the locking tangs. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  5. Disconnect the power steering line from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container. Discard the O-ring seal.
  6. Remove the power steering pump lower retaining bolts.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove the radiator grille.
  9. Remove the right-hand headlamp assembly. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the power steering hose from the power steering pump. Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
  11. Detach the power steering line from the engine and position to one side.
  12. Remove the power steering pump.
