SYSTEM TESTS

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

SYMPTOM INDEX

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If driver's power window control switch LEDs illuminate, go to next step. If driver's power window control switch LEDs do not illuminate, go to step 3.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse F56 (25-amp). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and CJB fuse F56 power supply side. If battery voltage exists, verify customer concern. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 8.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove and check Central Junction Box (CJB) fuse F57 (25-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, replace fuse. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire between CJB and driver's power window control switch.
  4. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and CJB fuse F57 (25-amp) power supply side. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step 10.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install CJB fuse F57 (25-amp). Disconnect driver's power window control switch harness connector C486. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-99683-S15885034972001072600000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and driver's power window control switch harness connector C486 terminal No. 2 (Green/Orange wire). (Scheme 3) If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short in Green/Orange wire between CJB and driver's power window control switch. Retest system operation.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and driver's power window control switch harness connector C486 terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between ground and driver's power window control switch. Ground point is located under trim panel in right hand "A" pillar. Retest system operation.
  7. Test driver's power window control switch. See «DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH (2-DOOR)»(ref-99683-S07063893042001072600000) or «DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH (4-DOOR)»(ref-99683-S17703372702001072600000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If driver's power window control switch is okay, verify customer concern. If driver's power window control switch is faulty, replace driver's power window control switch and retest system operation.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse F8 (30-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, replace fuse. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Red wire. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  9. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and BJB fuse F8 (30-amp) power supply side. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Red wire between BJB and CJB.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Install CJB fuse F57. Remove and check Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse F1 (40-amp). If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, replace fuse. If fuse fails again, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire between BJB and CJB.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and BJB fuse F1 (40-amp) power supply side. If battery voltage exists, repair open in Green/Red wire between BJB and CJB. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Green/Blue wire between ignition relay and BJB fuse F1. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If driver's power window control switch LED(s) illuminate, go to next step. If driver's power window control switch LED(s) do not illuminate, go to step 9.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove driver's power window control switch. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-99683-S15885034972001072600000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test driver's window control switch. See «DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH (2-DOOR)»(ref-99683-S07063893042001072600000) or «DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH (4-DOOR)»(ref-99683-S17703372702001072600000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If driver's power window control switch is okay, go to next step. If driver's power window control switch is faulty, replace driver's power window control switch and retest system operation.
  3. Connect driver's power window control switch harness connector. Remove power window control switch at inoperative window. See «POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-99683-S15885034972001072600000) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test power window control switch. See «PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-99683-S00882824212001072600000) under COMPONENT TESTS. If power window control switch is okay, go to next step. If power window control switch is faulty, replace power window control switch and retest system operation.
  4. Disconnect inoperative power window door harness connector located in respective door's "A" or "B" pillar. Measure voltage between ground and inoperative power window door harness connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW DOOR HARNESS CONNECTOR CHART»(ref-99683-S33089341942001072600000). (Scheme 4)or (Scheme 5). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short in appropriate wire and retest system operation. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-99683-S22943880692001072600000).   5. Disconnect inoperative power window door harness connector located in respective door's "A" or "B" pillar. Operate inoperative power window control switch in down and neutral positions. Measure resistance between ground and inoperative power window door harness connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW DOOR HARNESS CONNECTOR CHART»(ref-99683-S33089341942001072600000). (Scheme 4)or (Scheme 5). If resistance is less than 5 ohms in down position and more than 10 k/ohms in neutral position, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms in down position or less than 10 k/ohms in neutral position, repair open or short in appropriate wire and retest system operation. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-99683-S22943880692001072600000).
  6. Disconnect inoperative power window door harness connector located in respective door's "A" or "B" pillar. Operate inoperative power window control switch in up and neutral positions. Measure resistance between ground and inoperative power window door harness connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW DOOR HARNESS CONNECTOR CHART»(ref-99683-S33089341942001072600000). (Scheme 4)or (Scheme 5). If resistance is less than 5 ohms in up position and more than 10 k/ohms in neutral position, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms in up position and less than 10 k/ohms in neutral position, repair short to ground in appropriate wire and retest system operation. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-99683-S22943880692001072600000).
  7. Disconnect inoperative power window motor harness connector. Operate inoperative power window control switch in down position. Measure resistance between ground and inoperative power window motor harness connector. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR HARNESS CONNECTOR CHART»(ref-99683-S03162000422001072600000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. Retest system operation. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-99683-S22943880692001072600000).   8. Operate inoperative power window control switch in up position. Measure resistance between ground and inoperative power window motor harness connector terminal. See «POWER WINDOW MOTOR HARNESS CONNECTOR CHART»(ref-99683-S03162000422001072600000). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. Retest system operation.
  9. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect inoperative power window control switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and inoperative power window control switch harness connector terminals. Make measurements between driver's connector C486 terminals No. 3 (Black wire) and No. 4 (Green/Blue wire), passenger's connector C489 terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Green/White wire), right rear connector C491 terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Green/Red wire), or left rear connector C490 terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Green/Red wire). (Scheme 3)or (Scheme 6). If battery voltage exists at switch, replace inoperative switch and retest system operation. If battery voltage does not exist at switch, repair open in appropriate wire. Retest system operation. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(ref-99683-S22943880692001072600000).

Early Production - Vehicles Produced Prior To August 2000

Check continuity between specified terminals at appropriate connector with switch in specified position. See DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING (2-DOOR) EARLY PRODUCTION table. (Scheme 7) If continuity does not exist as specified. Replace switch, and retest system operation.

Check continuity between specified terminals at appropriate connector with switch in specified position. See DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING (2-DOOR) LATE PRODUCTION table. (Scheme 8) If continuity does not exist as specified, replace switch and retest system operation.

Note. Testing for left power window switch in down position is not available from manufacturer.

Check continuity between specified terminals at appropriate connector with switch in specified position. See PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING table. PASSENGER'S POWER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TESTING

Remove window motor from vehicle. See FRONT POWER WINDOW MOTOR or REAR POWER WINDOW MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Using fused jumper wires, connect a fully charged battery to motor terminals. Observe motor. Motor should operate smoothly. Reverse leads. Motor should operate in reverse direction. Replace window motor if it does not operate as specified.
