Evaporative Emissions - 2.0l Ecoboost Ford Focus ST III

Overview

The EVAP system prevents hydrocarbon emissions from entering the atmosphere by storing fuel vapors and routing the vapors to the engine to be consumed during normal engine operation.

The EVAP system consists of

1. EVAP canister
2. EVAP canister purge valve
3. EVAP canister vent solenoid
4. Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor and tube
5. Easy Fuel (capless) fuel tank filler pipe

Diagnostics in this manual assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. For information about these

For PCM DTC.

Evaporative Emission System Leak Test

1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions ( «HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/oem-general-information/#service-information-introduction-except-electric) ).
2. Disconnect the vapor tube-to- EVAP canister purge valve quick connect coupling (engine side). Refer to: Quick Release Coupling ( «QUICK RELEASE COUPLING»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-system-general-information-ecoboost-engine__quick-release-coupling) ).
3. Connect the VACUTEC Smoke Machine Fuel Evaporative Emission Tester to the EVAP canister purge valve fitting. Refer to manufacturer's instructions.
4. Connect the scan tool and open the EVAP canister purge valve.
5. Using the scan tool, close the EVAP canister vent solenoid. Refer to manufacturer's instructions.
6. Using the VACUTEC Smoke Machine Fuel Evaporative Emission Tester, pressurize the EVAP system.
7. Monitor the indicator flag on the VACUTEC Smoke Machine Fuel Evaporative Emission Tester. If the measurement is below the indicator flag, the system has passed the leak test and the test procedure is complete. If the measurement is above the indicator flag, the system has failed the leak test. If the leak test has failed, proceed to next step.
8. Introduce smoke from the VACUTEC Smoke Machine Fuel Evaporative Emission Tester into the EVAP system. Refer to manufacturer's instructions.
9. Use the halogen light provided with the VACUTEC Smoke Machine Fuel Evaporative Emission Tester to look for smoke coming from the EVAP system. This would indicate a leak point.
10. Repair any leaks as necessary.
11. Repeat the leak test until the system passes.

4. NOTE: Clean the EVAP canister vent solenoid electrical connector and the immediate surrounding area of any dirt or foreign material. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling ( «QUICK RELEASE COUPLING»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-system-general-information-ecoboost-engine__quick-release-coupling) ). Torque : 4 Nm

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
