Battery Saver
Note. Time-out is 10 seconds if the vehicle is in factory mode or 0 seconds if the vehicle is in transport mode.
The BCM provides automatic shut-off of the courtesy and demand lamps after a time-out period when the ignition is OFF. A timer in the BCM starts when
- the ignition transitions to OFF.
- any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.
- an unlock button of the RKE transmitter is pressed.
- a door is unlocked using a key.
- the door lock switch is pressed.
When 10 minutes (30 minutes for demand lamps) have elapsed, the BCM automatically shuts off voltage to the lamps. The timer restarts (voltage is restored if the BCM is in battery saver mode) if
- the ignition transitions out of OFF.
- any door or liftgate/luggage compartment lid becomes ajar.

Post Crash Alert Function
The post crash alert is a function controlled by the BCM. If the RCM determines an impact of enough severity has occurred (the air bags may or may not be deployed), the post crash alert function activates.
The post crash alert function
- sounds the horn.
- turns on the interior lights.
- unlocks the doors.
- turns off the wipers, if on.
The post crash alert function can be turned off by
- pressing the hazard flasher lamp switch (which may need to be pressed twice).
- pressing the transmitter unlock button.
- pressing the RKE transmitter PANIC button.
Field Effect Transistor (FET) Protection
A Field Effect Transistor (FET) is a type of transistor that, when used with module software, monitors and controls current flow on module outputs. The Field Effect Transistor (FET) protection strategy prevents module damage in the event of excessive current flow.
The BCM utilizes a Field Effect Transistor (FET) protective circuit strategy for many of its outputs (for example, a headlamp output circuit). Output loads (current level) are monitored for excessive current (typically short circuits) and are shut down (turns off the voltage or ground provided by the module) when a fault event is detected. A short circuit DTC is stored at the fault event and a cumulative counter is started.
When the demand for the output is no longer present, the module resets the Field Effect Transistor (FET) circuit protection to allow the circuit to function. The next time the driver requests a circuit to activate that has been shut down by a previous short (Field Effect Transistor (FET) protection) and the circuit is still shorted, the Field Effect Transistor (FET) protection shuts off the circuit again and the cumulative counter advances.
When the excessive circuit load occurs often enough, the module shuts down the output until a repair procedure is carried out. Each Field Effect Transistor (FET) protected circuit has 3 predefined levels of short circuit tolerance based on the harmful effect of each circuit fault on the Field Effect Transistor (FET) and the ability of the Field Effect Transistor (FET) to withstand it. A module lifetime level of fault events is established based upon the durability of the Field Effect Transistor (FET). If the total tolerance level is determined to be 600 fault events, the 3 predefined levels would be 200, 400 and 600 fault events.
When each tolerance level is reached, DTC U1000:00 should set along with the short circuit DTC that was stored on the first failure. These Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) cannot be cleared until the vehicle is repaired.
After the repair, it is necessary to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Use the clear DTC operation on the scan tool, cycle the ignition, and run the BCM on-demand self-test.
The module never resets the fault event counter to zero and continues to advance the fault event counter as short circuit fault events occur. If the number of short circuit fault events reach the third level, DTC U3000:49 sets along with the associated short circuit DTC. DTC U3000:49 cannot be cleared and the module must be replaced after the initial fault is repaired.
Gateway Function
The BCM acts as a gateway module by receiving information in one format and transmitting it to other modules using another format. For example, the BCM receives the vehicle speed data from the RCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN), converts the data into a Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) message and sends (gateways) the message to other network modules such as the IPC module. This enables network communication between modules that do not communicate using the same network (High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) or Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN)).
Note. The BCM and IPC have gateway functionality.
Transport Mode
During vehicle build, some modules (such as the IPC and the BCM) are set to factory mode. When the vehicle build is complete, the vehicle is set to transport mode.
Transport mode is used to reduce the drain on the battery during longer periods when the vehicle is not used. Various system functions can be altered or disabled when in the transport mode. While in transport mode, the IPC displays TRANSPORT MODE in the message center. Transport mode can be disabled and placed into normal operation mode.

Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Connect the PCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? DTC U1000:00 - Body Control Module (BCM)

The BCM controls the output of several vehicle systems by means of solid state drivers. When an overload occurs on any of these drivers, the BCM disables the output and tracks the number of repetitive faults on each of these circuits. The module compares this number of overloads to 3 progressive thresholds established for each circuit. At the each threshold, DTC U1000:00 sets along with the DTC associated with the affected circuit.

No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The circuit short has been repaired.

- K2 CHECK FOR CORRECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors. Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Connect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. Using a scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Wait 10 seconds. Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test. Is DTC U3003:16 still present? Yes: GO to M2 No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to a previous low battery voltage condition.
- M2 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) Using a scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory DTCs. Are any charging system DTCs recorded? - M3 CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE Check the battery condition and verify the battery is fully charged. - M4 CHECK THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) VOLTAGE SUPPLY Ignition OFF. Disconnect: BCM C2280G . Ignition ON. Measure: CLICK TO DISPLAY CONNECTORS Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2280G-1 - C2280G-2 - Are the voltages greater than 11 volts? Yes: GO to M5 No: VERIFY the high current BJB fuse 9 (50A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS to identify the possible causes for the short circuit.
- M5 CHECK THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) PROCESSOR GROUND Disconnect: BCM C2280A . Measure: CLICK TO DISPLAY CONNECTORS Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2280A-3 ohms - Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? Yes: GO to M6 No: REPAIR the circuit.
- M6 CHECK FOR CORRECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) OPERATION Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors. The wake-up control circuit wakes up the PCM prior to engine cranking. The PCM needs to wake up prior to a crank request so it has time to go through its initialization. The wake-up control circuit is controlled by the BCM.
The BCM activates the wake-up control circuit when

- A2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK Ignition ON. Using a scan tool, perform a network test. Does the BCM pass the network test? Yes: GO to A3 No: REFER to: Communications Network ( «COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network-except-electric) ).
- A3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE SELF-TEST Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test. Is DTC U3003:62 recorded? - A4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) SELF-TEST Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test. Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded? - A6 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) U0140:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) may not have been carried out. Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Ignition OFF. Ignition ON. Wait 10 seconds. Using a scan tool, retrieve all continuous memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Is DTC U0140:00 set in the IPC? Yes: INSTALL a new BCM. Measure and record: CLICK TO DISPLAY CONNECTORS Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead Battery Positive - Ignition OFF. Disconnect: RFA module C4392C . Ignition ON. Measure: CLICK TO DISPLAY CONNECTORS Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4392C-5 - Is the voltage measured at the RFA module within 2 volts of the voltage measured at the battery? Yes: GO to B2 No: REPAIR the circuit for high circuit resistance.
- B2 CHECK THE REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE GROUND Measure: CLICK TO DISPLAY CONNECTORS Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4392C-5 C4392C-4 Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? Yes: GO to B3 No: REPAIR the circuit for high circuit resistance.
- B3 CHECK FOR CORRECT REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE OPERATION Ignition OFF. Disconnect and inspect all the RFA module connectors. Repair: corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins) damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary Connect the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to: «Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module»(/ford/focus-st/iii-2012-2015/remont/cruise-control-systems/#multifunction-electronic-modules-except-electric__remote-function-actuator-rfa-module) . No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
Transport Mode Deactivation
- Place the ignition OFF.
- Verify the battery is fully charged.
- Place the ignition ON.
- Press and release the brake pedal 5 times.
- Press and release the hazard switch 4 times (on, off, on, off).
