Note. The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).
Note. Some of these modules utilize a 5-character DTC followed by a 2-character failure-type code. The failure-type code provides information about specific fault conditions such as opens, or shorts to ground. Continuous memory DTCs have an additional 2-character DTC status code suffix to assist in determining DTC history.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART
Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.

- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM . If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM : Check the VCM connection to the vehicle. Check the scan tool connection to the VCM . Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-372772) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition key is in the ON position. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-372772) to diagnose no response from the PCM.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-372772) . If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the SJB .
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC Charts. For all other DTCs, refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(ref-372773-S27075008662010093000000) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-372773-S37428103802010093000000) .

PINPOINT TEST A: DTCs B106E, B106F
- A1 REVIEW THE DTCs NOTE: First follow the necessary diagnostics to resolve DTC B106E and any other present DTCs (ignoring B106F). DTC B106E is only present when there is another DTC due to software or circuitry issues that must be resolved before another self-test is run. DTC B106F is only present once the final threshold has been met. Failure to correct the fault condition first may cause damage to the new SJB , resulting in a repeat repair. Review the DTCs from the SJB self-test. Are any other DTCs present, besides B106E, B106F or B1342? Yes: CORRECT the DTCs. REFER to the «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) DTC CHART»(ref-372773-S29880711112010093000000) . After the repair, GO to A2 . No: GO to A2 .
- A2 REPEAT THE SJB SELF-TEST Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB Self-Test. Clear the DTCs and repeat the SJB self-test. Is DTC B106F or DTC B1342 present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB . REFER to «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)»(ref-372773-S25446356932010093000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The circuit short has been repaired.
Pinpoint Test B: DTC B1317

Note. DTC B1317 may be stored in the module memory due to previous battery charging or vehicle jump starting events.
- B1 CHECK FOR DTC B1317, B1676 OR P0563 SET IN OTHER MODULES Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: (All Modules) Self-Test. Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules. Is DTC B1317, B1676 or P0563 (PCM) set in more than one module? Yes: Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-372761) to diagnose an overcharging condition. No: GO to B2 .
- B2 CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE Turn off all interior/exterior lights and accessories. Start and run the engine at approximately 2,000 rpm for 3 minutes while monitoring the battery voltage. Does the battery voltage rise to 15.5 volts or higher? Yes: Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-372761) to diagnose an overcharging condition. No: GO to B3 .
- B3 RECHECK FOR DTC B1317 Turn the engine off. Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB Self-Test. Clear the continuous memory DTCs. Carry out the SJB self-test. Is DTC B1317 present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB . REFER to «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)»(ref-372773-S25446356932010093000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set previously during battery charging or while jump starting the vehicle.
Pinpoint Test C: DTC B1318

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
Note. Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. Refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .

- C1 RECHECK THE SJB DTCs Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB Self-Test. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the SJB self-test. Is DTC B1318 still present? Yes: GO to C2 . No: The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set previously during battery charging or while jump starting the vehicle.
- C2 CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM DTCs IN THE PCM Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PCM Self- Test. Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from the PCM. Is DTC P0620, P0625, P0626 or P065B set in the PCM? Yes: Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-372761) . No: GO to C3 .
- C3 CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION AND STATE OF CHARGE Ignition OFF. Check the battery condition and verify the battery is fully charged. Refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-372793) . Is the battery OK and fully charged? Yes: GO to C4 . No: Refer to «CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-372761) .
- C4 CHECK THE SJB VOLTAGE PID Measure and record the voltage at the battery. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger. Monitor the SJB voltage PID (GEM_VBATT). Is the voltage within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage? Yes: GO to C7 . No: GO to C5 .
- C5 CHECK THE SJB VOLTAGE SUPPLY Disconnect: SJB C2280g. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the SJB C2280g-1, circuit SBB01 (RD), harness side and ground. Is the voltage within 0.2 volt of the recorded battery voltage? Yes: GO to C6 . No: REPAIR the circuit for high resistance. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- C6 CHECK THE SJB GROUND CIRCUIT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable. Disconnect: SJB C2280d. Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280d-7, C2280d-8, C2280d-12 and C2280d-24, circuit GD133 (BK), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes: CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to C7 . No: REPAIR the circuit for high resistance. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- C7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION Disconnect all the SJB connectors. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes: INSTALL a new SJB . REFER to «SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)»(ref-372773-S25446356932010093000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

- D1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN Ignition ON. Verify there is an observable symptom present. Is an observable symptom present? Yes: GO to D2 . No: The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
- D2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK Ignition ON. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test. Carry out the network test. Does the SJB pass the network test? Yes: GO to D3 . No: Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-372772) .
- D3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST Check for recorded SJB DTCs from the self-test. Is DTC B1317 or DTC B1318 recorded? Yes: For DTC B1317, GO to «PINPOINT TEST B»(ref-372773-S19008114292010093000000) . For DTC B1318, GO to «PINPOINT TEST C»(ref-372773-S14248028462010093000000) . No: GO to D4 .
- D4 RECHECK THE SJB DTCs NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the SJB self-test. Is DTC U0155 still present? Yes: GO to D5 . No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
- D5 CHECK FOR DTC U0155/U0155:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES Clear all DTCs. Ignition OFF. Ignition ON. Wait 10 seconds. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test. Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules. Is DTC U0155/U0155:00 set in other modules? Yes: INSTALL a new IC. Refer to «INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES»(ref-372777) . Note. If DTC B106F is present and the Driver Seat Module (DSM) is to be replaced, the fault condition must be corrected first. Failure to correct the fault condition first may cause damage to the new DSM , resulting in a repeat repair.
- E1 REVIEW THE DTCs Review the DTCs from the DSM self-test. Is only DTC B106F present? Yes: INSTALL a new DSM . REFER to «DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM)»(ref-372773-S01569808692010093000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: CORRECT any DTCs present other than DTC B106E (DTC B106F may also be present). REFER to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHART»(ref-372773-S27075008662010093000000) . After the repair, GO to E2 .
- E2 CARRY OUT THE DSM SELF-TEST Carry out the DSM self-test. Is only DTC B106F present? Yes: INSTALL a new DSM . REFER to «DRIVER SEAT MODULE (DSM)»(ref-372773-S39163257262010093000000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a fault in one of the output circuits, which is no longer present.

- G5 CHECK THE DSM GROUND CIRCUIT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable. Measure the resistance between the DSM C341b-24, circuit GD905 (BK/GN), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes: CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to G6 . No: REPAIR the circuit for high resistance. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
