REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

Explorer/Explorer Sport Trac

  1. Remove the headlamp assemblies. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) article.
  2. Disconnect the fog lamp electrical connectors, if equipped. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) article.
  3. Disconnect the side turn signal lamp electrical connectors, if equipped. For additional information, refer to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lighting-system) article.
  4. Remove the front fender inner splash shield screws.
  5. Remove the front fender inner splash shield pin-type retainers.
  6. Remove the front fender inner splash shields.
  7. Remove the 2 bolts from the bottom of the bumper cover.
  8. Remove the 6 grille-to-grille opening panel scrivets.
  9. Release the bumper cover-to-fender clips.
  10. Remove the bumper cover upper screws.
  11. Rotate the bottom of the front bumper cover upward.
  12. Apply downward pressure to the top of the front bumper cover to release the 3 locking tabs.
  13. Remove the front bumper cover.
  14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Remove the front bumper cover. For additional information, refer to «Bumper Cover - Front»(/ford/explorer-sport-trac/ii-2006-2010/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumper-system) .
  2. Remove the 4 front bumper bolts. To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the front bumper.
  4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. For additional information, refer to the procedures in this article.
  1. Remove the tail lamp assemblies.
  2. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover bracket bolts. To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
  3. Remove the 9 bumper cover pin-type retainers.
  4. Disconnect the rear parking aid sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  5. Remove the bumper cover. Lift the outer corners upward and pull the bumper cover straight up and out.
  6. Transfer components as necessary.
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Remove the taillamp assemblies.
  2. Remove the 2 rear bumper bracket bolts.
  3. Remove the bumper cover pin-type retainers.
  4. Disconnect the rear parking aid sensor electrical connector, if equipped.
  5. Remove the side marker lamp electrical connector, if equipped.
  6. Remove the 8 bumper cover-to-splash shield pin-type retainers.
  7. Remove the rear bumper cover. Lift the front corner of the rear bumper cover straight up and pull away. Repeat on the opposite side.
  8. Transfer components as necessary.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Bumper Cover - Rear, Sport Trac

  1. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover screws. To install, tighten to 6 N.m (53 lb-in).
  2. Remove the 6 rear bumper cover splash shield screws (3 each side).
  3. Disconnect the license plate electrical connector.
  4. Remove the bumper cover. Pull the outer corners outward and pull the bumper cover rearward to disengage the cover from the retaining clips.
  5. Transfer the components as necessary.
  6. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
