DESCRIPTION

Automatic A/C-heater system is a cycling-clutch, fixed orifice tube type. Compressor operation is controlled by A/C cycling switch. A compressor pressure relief valve in compressor manifold and tube assembly protects against excessively high pressures. Fixed orifice tube is in low side refrigerant line at evaporator connection. Evaporator and heater cores are contained in a one-piece housing assembly, mounted under instrument panel. (Scheme 5)

An optional auxiliary air conditioning and heating system is available for self-control by rear passengers. Auxiliary unit is located of left side of vehicle, between side window and floorpan, behind rear wheelwell. Both driver and passengers can control auxiliary unit function. Center console has ventilation system for rear passenger. Center console is supplied with air from main housing chamber. A separate blower motor is located in center console. Automatic A/C-heater system is controlled through a series of sensors which measure ambient and interior temperatures, sunlight load, and other conditions, and automatically adjusts temperature operations to maintain a preset driver-selected temperature. see scheme 4 A/C-heater operations can be manually controlled, if needed, by choosing other control panel settings.

The A/C-heater system heats and/or cools vehicle interior depending on Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) panel setting or override function button position, blower speed, and temperature selected. EATC module includes a digital display for temperature readings. Digital display can also be used to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) that might be recognized and stored in self-diagnostic system.

Auxiliary A/C system has dual controls for driver and for passenger consisting of temperature, blower speed, and mode. Driver controls are mounted in overhead console. Passenger controls are mounted in a separate console positioned on roof trim panel.
