DTC B1261 TEST: SUNLOAD SENSOR CIRCUIT SHORTED Ford Expedition I

  1. Check Sunload Sensor Resistance Turn ignition off. Disconnect sunload sensor connector, located on top right of instrument panel. Connect ground lead of multimeter to Pink/Black wire of sunload sensor. Measure resistance between sunload sensor terminals. If resistance is more than zero ohms, go to next step. If resistance is zero ohms, replace sunload sensor and retest system.
  2. Check Sunload Sensor Output Voltage Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Press AUTOMATIC button on EATC panel. With a voltmeter, measure voltage between sunload sensor connector Brown wire and Pink/Black wire. If voltage is between 4.7 and 5.1 volts, go to step 6) . If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
  3. Check Brown Wire Circuit For Short Turn ignition off. Disconnect EATC module connector C280. With an ohmmeter, measure resistance of Brown wire between EATC module connector C280 and ground. If resistance is more than 10,000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms, repair short to ground in Brown wire and retest system.
  4. Check Brown Wire Circuit For Open Measure resistance of Brown wire between EATC module connector C280 and terminal at sunload sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown wire and retest system.
  5. Check Pink/Black Wire Circuit For Open Measure resistance of Pink/Black wire between EATC module connector C280 and terminal at sunload sensor connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace EATC module and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink/Black wire and retest system.
  6. Check Sunload Sensor Connections Disconnect EATC module connector C280 and sunload sensor connector. Inspect sunload sensor connector pins, and pins of EATC connectors Pink/Black and Brown wires for damage, loose fit or improper installation. If all wiring is undamaged and properly connected, replace EATC module and retest system. If wiring shows signs of damage or incorrect connections, repair wiring as needed and retest system.
