  1. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery. Disconnect wiring harness retaining clip from battery tray. Remove battery tray. Remove air cleaner assembly. Disconnect shift control cable. Disconnect speedometer cable. Unplug transaxle electrical harness connectors. Separate harness from retaining clips.
  2. Remove Transmission Range (TR) sensor harness brackets from transaxle. Disconnect ground cables from transaxle. Unplug TR sensor harness connector. Install Engine Support Fixture (014-00750). Disconnect kickdown cable at throttle cam. Disconnect transaxle oil cooler lines at transaxle. Plug openings to prevent leakage and contamination. Remove upper transaxle mount.
  3. Remove upper transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts. Disconnect oxygen sensor harness connector. Disconnect transaxle vent hose. Unplug speed sensor harness connector at sensor. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Using a hammer and flat punch, raise staked area on axle retaining nut. CAUTION: DO NOT damage threads on outer CV joint.
  4. Remove axle shaft nuts. Disconnect lower ball joints from steering knuckles. Disconnect axle shaft mid-bearing from back side of engine (if equipped). Disconnect axle shafts from steering knuckles. Remove starter. Remove lower splash shields and torque converter inspection plate. Mark relation of torque converter to flexplate for installation reference.
  5. Remove torque converter-to-flexplate nuts. Disconnect lower crossmember from vehicle chassis. Using pry bar inserted between axle shaft and transaxle case, pry axle shafts from transaxle. Install 2 Transaxle Plugs (T88C-7025-AH) into differential side gears.
  6. Place drain pan under transaxle. Remove transaxle oil pan and differential drain plug. Reinstall oil pan and drain plug. Support transaxle with hydraulic jack. Remove lower transaxle-to-engine mounting bolts. Lower transaxle and remove from vehicle.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten bolts/nuts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-61319-S40664429872001100200000) . Align reference marks on torque converter and flexplate. Use NEW circlip on axle shaft inboard-stub shaft.
  2. Fill transaxle with appropriate fluid. See the TRANSMISSION SERVICING - A/T article. DO NOT overfill. Adjust Throttle Valve (T.V.) cable and shift linkage. Check and adjust axle shaft positioning. See the AXLE SHAFT article in DRIVE AXLES section.
