Power Windows: Removal & Installation — Ford Escort V рестайлинг (1991-1996)

Removal

Remove the door trim panel and watershield. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-28362-S00904187862003060400000) .
Loosen front glass run retainer retaining screw and position retainer forward.
Lower glass to gain access to 2 glass bracket rivets and remove the center pins from rivets using a drift punch. Using a 1/4 inch diameter drill, drill out remainder of rivets.
Remove the glass.

Installation

Insert the glass into door between outer belt weatherstrip and inner panel.
Position glass into door frame and lower window to align with regulator bracket.
Install 2, 1/4 inch rivets using Rotunda Blind Fastener Installation Tool 107-00600 or equivalent (use of 1/4-20 X 1 inch screw and washer assemblies and 1/4-inch-20 nut and washer assemblies is optional). Equivalent metric fasteners may also be used.
Adjust door glass as outlined.
Install watershield, door trim panel and armrest. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-28362-S00904187862003060400000) .

Installation (Town Car)

Ensure plastic watershield is secured to door panel.
Position trim panel to door. Connect courtesy lamp wiring.
Align door lock side to its mating slide on the sheet metal (front doors only).
Snap in trim panel. Ensure all retainers fit properly.
Install 2 retaining screws on front and rear side of door trim panel.
Connect driver seat memory switch (driver's door only) if equipped.
Position window regulator switch housing and connect switch connectors. Install to door trim panel by snapping in, or by installing the screw at the rear.
Install 2 retaining screws and pull strap covers.

Scheme 1

Scheme 1: Removal (Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis)

Scheme 2

Remove outside rear view mirror remote control unit.
Remove window regulator switch housing by gently prying up, starting at the front.
Disconnect all connectors from switch housing.
Remove door inside handle cup by gently prying at screwdriver slot with a screwdriver. (Scheme 1)or (Scheme 2).
Remove push pin from door trim panel upper front extension and remove screw.
Remove lower self-tapping screw retaining door trim panel to door inner panel.
On Grand Marquis only, pry up screw covers from door pull handle and remove screws and handle.
Disconnect wire harnesses from door panel as required and remove trim panel.

Installation (Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis)

Connect wire harness to door panel as required.
Install door trim panel by pushing in and down until it snaps into place.
Install all self tapping screws retaining door trim panel to door inner panel.
On Grand Marquis only, install door pull handle, tighten screws and install screw covers.
Install push pin covering screw on trim panel upper front extension.
Install inside door handle cup.
Install window regulator switch housing.

Removal & Installation

Raise window to full up position (if possible) and support. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove inner door trim panel and protective cover.
Locate and mark area of door panel covering motor mounting screws. Some models may have dimples over mounting screw locations. Disconnect motor wiring connector. Ensure that no wires are routed directly under mounting screw areas.
On Sable and Taurus models, remove 2 forward regulator mounting plate rivets. Remove 3 electric motor mounting screws. Push regulator mounting plate outward to remove motor.
On all other models, use a 3/4" hole saw with a 1/4" pilot to drill inner door panel to expose motor mounting screws. Remove drilled shavings from door.
On all models, lock regulator arm in fixed position to prevent counterbalance spring from unwinding. Remove motor mounting screws and remove motor. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal (Window Down & Inoperative)

Remove door trim panel and watershield. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-28362-S00904187862003060400000).
Mark inner door panel and drill 3 holes 0.5 INCH (12.7 mm). (Scheme 3)
Remove retaining screws through holes.
Remove regulator assembly off mounting bracket through access hole.
Remove motor assembly from drum housing and cover.
Raise glass to full up position by hand and secure with a clamp.
Disconnect motor wire from harness.
Remove motor drive assembly.
Remove regulator.

Install regulator. Install motor drive assembly through access hole.
Assemble motor drive assembly to drum housing and cover. Align mounting holes in motor with holes in drum housing and cover.
Align motor drive assembly to mounting bracket. Install 3 retaining screws and tighten to 49-61 INCH lbs. (5.5-7.0 N.m).
Connect motor wire to harness. Remove clamp and check window operation. Install watershield and door trim panel.

Installation (Window Down & Inoperative)

Install regulator.
Install motor drive assembly through access hole.
Assemble motor drive assembly to drum housing and cover. Align mounting holes in motor with holes in drum housing and cover.
Align motor drive assembly to mounting bracket.
Install 3 retaining screws to mounting bracket. Tighten to 49-61 INCH lbs. (5.5-7.0 N.m).
Connect motor wire to harness.
Remove clamp and check window operation.
Install watershield and door trim panel. See «DOOR TRIM PANEL»(ref-28362-S00904187862003060400000) .

Removal & Installation (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VIII & Town Car)

Disconnect battery ground. Locate relay in right lower pillar, behind right hand kick panel. Disconnect relay connector and remove retaining screw. Remove relay. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (All Other Models)

Disconnect battery ground. Remove screw attaching relay to left reinforcement-to-brake pedal support. Disconnect wires from relay and remove. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Continental)

On front doors, carefully pry up front of switch housing from armrest and unhook rear of housing. Remove electrical connector by removing connector retaining nut (driver's door) or 2 retaining screws (passenger's door). Carefully pry connector from switch base. Remove 2 switch retaining screws and remove switch from housing. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Note. On passenger's door, it may help to loosen 2 rearward power door lock switch retaining screws.

Removal & Installation (Crown Victoria & Grand Marquis)

Remove screw from front of bezel and lift bezel and switch away from arm rest. Remove bezel and nut from mirror remote control. Remove 2 nuts from bezel studs and separate switch from bezel. Pull switch from connector. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Cougar, Mustang, Sable, Taurus & Thunderbird)

On front and rear doors, remove switch housing attaching screw. Rotate housing up and out of armrest. Remove 2 connector attaching screws from bottom of switch housing. Use a small screwdriver to pry switch from connector. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Note. All switches are keyed and can only be installed one way.

Removal & Installation (Mark VIII)

Remove console front finish panel. Remove 4 screws attaching switch mounting plate to base of console. Pull mounting plate up. Remove 2 screws attaching electrical connector to mounting plate. Remove switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Town Car)

Remove front retaining screw and pry up front portion of switch housing. Unhook rear edge of housing and remove from armrest. Remove 2 screws from electrical connector. Pry switch from connector with small screwdriver. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove switch bezel retaining screw from bottom of bezel. Pivot lower edge of bezel out and up to remove bezel. Pry switch from connector to remove. To install, reverse removal procedure.
