TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

The Electronic Ignition (EI) system is a coil-on-plug ignition system. The coil-on-plug ignition system consists of the

  1. Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor.
  2. Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor.
  3. ignition coil-on-plugs.
  4. spark plugs.

The CMP sensor

  1. is a Hall-effect sensor.
  2. is mounted in the front cover.
  3. is triggered by the high point mark on the intake camshaft trigger wheel.
  4. provides camshaft rotational location information to the PCM.

The CKP sensor

  1. is a variable reluctance sensor.
  2. is triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.
  3. provides base timing and crankshaft speed (RPM) to the PCM.

The ignition coil-on-plugs

  1. change low voltage signals from the PCM to high voltage pulses.
  2. supplies the high voltage pulses to the spark plugs.
  3. are connected directly to each spark plug.

The spark plugs

  1. change high voltage pulses into a spark which ignites the fuel and air mixture.
