Normal Operation
The seat control switch is powered by battery voltage through circuit 171 (BK/WH) and is grounded by circuit 57 (BK). The seat control switch then routes power and ground to the appropriate circuits to operate the seat motors.
The power seat should move quietly in the forward, rearward, front up/down and rear up/down directions during operation. Some noise is acceptable. Compare the noise to a similar vehicle for reference.
The power seat movement should be smooth and the seat cushion should not rock during or after operation.
The power seat should travel fully horizontal (forward/rearward) and vertical (front up/down and rear up/down).
The seat control switch is powered by battery voltage on circuit 171 (BK/WH) and is grounded by circuit 57 (BK). When pressed in one of the 6 available directions, the seat control switch supplies voltage to the desired seat motor on the desired direction circuit. The seat control switch is normally closed to ground on all 6 of the seat motor circuits, so if one circuit becomes closed to power, the circuit on the opposite side of the same motor is still closed to ground. The seat motor will then operate, moving the seat track in the desired direction. Moving the seat control switch in the opposite direction reverses polarity to the seat motor, which causes the seat motor to move the seat track in the opposite direction. There are 3 seat motors integrated to the seat track assembly: 1 to move the seat horizontally (forward/rearward), 1 for front vertical (up/down) operation and 1 for rear vertical (up/down) operation.
The driver and passenger heated seats share a common battery and ignition feed. A shared ground source supplies the heated seat control switches. When the heated seat control switch is pressed with the key in ON or START, a momentary ground signal is sent to the heated seat module. The heated seat module then supplies voltage to the heating element circuit. The cushion element and seat backrest element are wired in series and voltage is supplied by the same output. The heated seat module also supplies voltage to the separate indicator circuit for the indicator to illuminate (located in the heated seat switch) to indicate an ON state. The heated seat module will remain on until the heated seat control switch is pressed and a momentary ground signal is received, or until 10 minutes expire. If the ignition source is removed from the module, the heated seat module will enter an OFF state and will not return to ON until the switch is once again pressed with the ignition switch in RUN. The heated seat module is designed to heat the seat to 37.5°C (99.5°F) and maintain the temperature until time-out or until switched off. This temperature is maintained by the heated seat module monitoring the temperature sensor, located in the seat cushion element and duty cycling the current flow to the heating elements.

A shared ground source supplies the heated seat control switches and the heated seat elements. The heated seat control switches are a latching-type switch; continuity through the switch will remain, regardless if voltage is supplied to the switch or not, until the switch is pressed to place it in the OFF setting. When the heated seat control switch is pressed with the ignition switch in RUN or START, voltage is supplied to the bi-metallic thermostat that is part of the seat cushion element. The seat cushion element and seat backrest element are wired in series and powered by the same output of the bi-metallic thermostat that is part of the seat cushion element. The cushion element and seat backrest element are wired in series and powered by the same output. The heated seat will remain on until the heated seat control switch is pressed and voltage is no longer supplied to the bi-metallic thermostat. If the ignition source is removed from the heated seat, the heated seat system will return to ON with the ignition switch in the RUN state until the switch is pressed. The heated seat system is designed to maintain the temperature by the opening (no voltage to the heated seat elements) and closing (voltage supplied to the heated seat elements) of the bi-metallic thermostat.
