REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
| WARNING | Vehicle is equipped with Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. When servicing vehicle, use care to avoid accidental air bag deployment. SIR system-related components are located in various locations throughout interior and exterior of vehicle, depending on application. Do not use electrical test equipment on or near these circuits. If necessary, deactivate SIR system before servicing components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. |
Note. When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle.
Remove passengers side "A" pillar lower trim. Disconnect harness connector. Remove 3 blower motor mounting screws. Remove blower motor and cover. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Remove instrument panel center finish panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL. Remove blower motor switch knob. Depress locking tab and remove blower motor switch. (Scheme 35) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove instrument panel center finish panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL. Remove 4 screws retaining control panel assembly to center finish panel. (Scheme 36) Remove control panel assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Remove instrument panel center finish panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL. Remove function selector switch knob. Push in locking tab on one side of function selector switch and remove function selector switch. (Scheme 37) To install, reverse removal procedure.
Note. NOTE: Align function selector switch locking tabs with holes in housing and press function selector into housing. Verify that both locking tabs are secured.

- Drain radiator coolant until level is below heater core. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core. (Scheme 38) Remove instrument panel. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Remove screw and heater blend door levers. (Scheme 39) Remove 3 heater core cover screws. Remove heater core cover and heater core. (Scheme 40)
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure blend door cable and temperature switch are properly positioned before installing temperature control cable. See «TEMPERATURE BLEND DOOR CONTROL CABLE»(ref-151647-S38835814502003030600000) and «TEMPERATURE CONTROL SWITCH»(ref-151647-S01211528662003030500000).

- Drain engine coolant. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core. (Scheme 38) Remove instrument panel. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Remove 3 heater core housing retaining nuts and remove heater core housing being careful not to spill coolant in passenger area. (Scheme 41) To install, reverse removal procedure.

- Disconnect negative battery cable. Open glove box and press release tabs inward while pulling downward on glove box. (Scheme 42) Position locator pin, release locking tab, and remove temperature control cable from blend door shaft. (Scheme 43) Remove instrument panel center finish panel. (Scheme 44)
- To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal
Remove instrument panel center finish panel. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL. Disconnect electrical connectors. Depress 3 tabs and remove temperature blend door control cable. (Scheme 45)
Installation
Note. Rotate gear to align locking tab with notch in gear before installing. (Scheme 47)
To install, reverse removal procedure.
- Remove instrument panel center finish panel. See «INSTRUMENT PANEL CENTER FINISH PANEL»(ref-151647-S20844027232003030600000). Remove temperature control switch knob. Align locator holes and insert special tool. Release locking tab. Remove temperature blend door control cable from blend door shaft. (Scheme 43)
- Depress three tabs and remove temperature blend door control cable. (Scheme 45) Remove screw. (Scheme 46) Depress tab and rotate temperature control switch counterclockwise and remove temperature control switch.

- Disconnect vacuum line. (Scheme 48)- (Scheme 51). Remove two screws. Disconnect vacuum control motor from door lever. Remove vacuum control motor.
- To install, reverse removal procedure.
