MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS

Note. New Power Transfer Unit (PTU) lubricant must be added any time the PTU has been submerged in water.

Note. The Power Transfer Unit (PTU) is lubricated for life and is not to be checked unless a leak is suspected or a repair is necessary.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to «JACKING & LIFTING»(ref-344051) .
  2. Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid.
  3. Apply silicone sealant to the drain plug threads and install the drain plug. Tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).
  4. Remove the fill plug and fill the PTU with specified lubricant.
  5. Apply silicone sealant to the fill plug and install the plug. Tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).

PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION

All vehicles

  1. Position the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) to the transaxle.
  2. Install the 3 PTU-to-transaxle bolts. Tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).
  3. Install the PTU-to-transaxle bolt (M10). Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  4. Connect the PTU vent tube.
  5. Install the PTU-to-engine bracket and the 6 bracket bolts. Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). Hybrid vehicles
  6. Install the exhaust bracket and bolts. Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Vehicles equipped with 2.5L engines and Hybrid
  7. Install the exhaust bracket nuts. Tighten to 36 Nm (27 lb-ft). All vehicles
  8. Install the PTU heat shield and the 3 PTU heat shield bolts. Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Vehicles equipped with 3.0L
  9. Install the catalytic converter - 3.0L RH manifold. For additional information, refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-344061) . All vehicles
  10. Install the crossmember brace and the 4 bolts. Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).
  11. Install the driveshaft. For additional information, refer to «DRIVESHAFT»(ref-344083) .
  12. Install the front RH intermediate shaft. For additional information, refer to «FRONT DRIVE HALFSHAFTS»(ref-344085) .
  13. Install the exhaust as required. For additional information, refer to «EXHAUST SYSTEM»(ref-344061) .
  14. Fill the PTU. For additional information, refer to «POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) DRAINING AND FILLING»(ref-344082-S01155393472009101600000) .
  15. Check the transaxle fluid level. For additional information, refer to «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35»(ref-344057) or «AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (ECVT)»(ref-344058) .

  1. Using the Driven Gear Oil Seal Installer, install the input shaft seal.
  2. Install the helical gears. Install the drive gear. Use a slight rotation to prevent damaging the inner input seal. Install the idler gear. Install the driven gear.
  3. Apply a 3 mm (0.11 in) bead of silicone sealant to the sealing surface of the PTU cover. Install the PTU cover and tighten the 12 PTU cover bolts in a star pattern. Tighten to 32 Nm (24 lb-ft).
  4. Install the vent tube and the bolt. Tighten to 14 Nm (124 lb-in).
