Front Seats

The front bucket seats are equipped with the following serviceable items

1. Head restraints attached to the seat backrests
2. Heated cushions and backrests (if equipped)
3. Seat backrest and cushion covers
4. Seat backrest and cushion foam pads
5. Seat backrest and cushion frames
6. Manual lumbar in the driver seat backrest (if equipped)
7. Manual seat tracks
8. Power seat track attached to the driver seat (if equipped)
9. Seat control switch attached to the driver seat cushion side shield
10. Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) in the passenger seat cushion
11. Safety belt buckle pretensioners attached to the seat tracks
12. Side air bags in the seat backrests

Power Seats

The driver power seat is equipped with a 6-way power seat track and a seat mounted control switch to move the seat horizontally and vertically (front and rear height).

Seat track motors are part of power seat track assembly and are not serviceable separately.

Heated Seats

This system allows the electrical heating of the front seats on demand.

The components of the heated seat system include the following

1. Heater mats located in each seat cushion and backrest
2. Heated seat switches, located on the instrument panel
3. Thermostats (part of each cushion heater mat)
4. Heated seat relay attached under each seat cushion frame

Manual Lumbar

The manual lumbar and handle is mounted to the side of the seat backrest frame. The manual lumbar actuator rotates, pulling a cable, to move the backrest lumbar in or out.

Side Air Bags

Note. If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat back pad, trim cover and side air bag module and nuts must be installed. A new seat back frame should be installed if necessary.

The driver and passenger seat side air bags are attached to the seat backrest frame. If a seat side air bag deployment has occurred or for more information, refer to the appropriate procedure in SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioners

The safety belt buckle pretensioners remove excess slack from the safety belt webbing when activated by the Restraints Control Module (RCM). For information or if a deployment has occurred, refer to the appropriate procedure in SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS)

Note. OCS system components [seat wiring harness, seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM)] are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. If new OCS system components are needed, an OCS system service kit must be installed as an assembly.

The OCS system is standard equipment on all front outboard passenger seats. For information on diagnosing or servicing the OCS system, refer to the appropriate procedure in SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

Rear Seats

The rear seats are a 60/40 percent split-bench equipped with the following serviceable items

1. Outboard and center seat head restraints attached to the seat backrests
2. Seat backrest and cushion covers
3. Seat backrest and cushion foam pads
4. Seat backrest and cushion frames
5. Latch mechanisms attached to the seat backrest frames
6. Center safety belt retractor mounted to the 60 percent seat backrest frame

Power Seat (Driver Only)

The driver power seat uses a 6-way power seat track and 3 electric motors directly controlled by a seat-mounted 6-way seat control switch for horizontal (forward/rearward), front height and rear height adjustment.

The power seat is hard-wired to the seat control switch. The circuits are normally at ground through the seat control switch. An individual motor is switched to voltage and ground when a specific adjustment position is selected.

The HVAC module contains the heated seat control buttons and indicators. The heated seat system operates independently from the climate control system and the engine must be running.

A heated seat relay is located underneath each heated seat cushion frame. Voltage is supplied from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) to each heated seat relay coil when the ignition is ON. The HVAC module supplies ground to a relay coil when a heated seat switch button is pressed to energize the relay. This closes the relay contact to supply battery voltage from the SJB to the cushion heater mat. The cushion and backrest heater mats are wired in series and the backrest heater mats are directly connected to ground to complete the electrical circuit to heat a seat.

Each cushion heater mat contains a non-serviceable internal thermostatic switch that closes when cold to complete the heater grid circuit and heat the seat. When hot, the thermostatic switch opens the heater grid circuit and allows the seat to cool. During normal operation, several minutes may be required before seat temperature is increased and several more minutes of cooling before the heater mats continue with heating. The heated seat indicator illuminates continuously while the thermostatic switch cycles open and closed.

The seat should be occupied to correctly test for normal operation. Temperature measuring devices do not provide an accurate method for testing heated seat operation as surface temperatures are subject to human and environmental characteristics. Correct testing requires heater mat resistance measurements which have tight tolerances affecting heat cycle time length.

The heated seat system does not time-out. A heated seat will remain on until the heated seat switch or ignition is switched OFF.

Pinpoint Tests

Note. Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when taking measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector. Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.

1. Remove the rear seat backrest. For additional information, refer to «SEAT BACKREST - REAR»(ref-344093-S08607182952009101600000) .
2. Remove the head restraint(s).
3. Remove the 2 screws and latch cover.
4. Remove the 2 seat latch release handle screws.
5. Remove the seat latch release handle. Detach the latch rod from the seat latch release handle. To aid installation, lock the latch using a flat-blade screwdriver before connecting the latch rod. Remove the seat latch release handle.
6. Release the backrest cover J-clip.
7. Unzip the backrest trim cover zipper.
8. Squeeze together the tip of each head restraint guide and remove from the backrest frame. Note the alignment tab position for correct installation.
9. If 60 percent backrest, remove the 2 screws and safety belt shield.
10. Separate the hook-and-loop strips and remove the seat backrest trim cover.
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

1. Remove the rear seat cushion. Position the seat cushion forward. Release the locking tab and slide the rear seat cushion outward.
2. Unzip the cushion cover zipper.
3. Invert and remove the cushion cover.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
