WARNINGBefore working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGAlways disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery when working on an evaporative emission (EVAP) system or fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

Note. Early build 3.0L engines are equipped with a Schrader valve on the fuel rail. Late build 3.0L engines do not have a Schrader valve.

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to «FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-344122-S00319914282009101600000) .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-344091) .
  3. Remove the Fuel Pump (FP) module access cover.
  4. Disconnect the FP module electrical connector.
  5. Disconnect the fuel tube-to-FP module quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to «QUICK CONNECT COUPLING»(ref-344122-S20213855772009101600000) .
  6. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe recirculation tube-to-FP module quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to «QUICK CONNECT COUPLING»(ref-344122-S20213855772009101600000) .
  7. Connect the Fuel Storage Tanker to the fuel tank filler pipe recirculation tube port on the FP module and remove approximately one-fourth of the fuel (from a completely full tank), lowering the fuel level below the FP module mounting flange.
  8. Install the Fuel Tank Sender Unit Wrench and remove the FP module lock ring.
  9. Position the FP module aside, insert the tube from the Fuel Storage Tanker into the FP module aperture and remove as much fuel as possible from the fuel tank.
