Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION CHART Electrical Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 34 (10A) Wiring, terminals or connectors Parking aid sensors
- If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: Verify the ignition is ON. The air bag warning indicator prove-out confirms ignition ON (other indicators may NOT prove ignition is ON) confirms ignition ON. If ignition does not turn ON, refer to «STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES»(ref-494582) to diagnose no power in RUN. Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. Refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-494551) , Inspection and Verification to establish a scan tool session.
- Carry out the self-test diagnostics for the RFA module and «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) .
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S05420319282012081400000) . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-494579) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-494633-S12754591382012081400000) .

Pinpoint Test A: The Parking Aid Is Inoperative
Refer to OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS - PARKING AID for schematic and connector information.
- A1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Check the PAM DTCs from the self-test. Are any PAM DTCs recorded? Yes : REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S05420319282012081400000) . No : GO to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER FOR CORRECT OPERATION While observing the message center, disable and enable the parking aid system. Does the message center display PARK AID OFF when the parking aid system is disabled, and display PARK AID ON when the parking aid system is enabled? Yes : GO to A3. No : REFER to «INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES»(ref-494581) .
- A3 CHECK FOR CORRECT REVERSE GEAR INPUT Apply the parking brake. Ignition ON. Select REVERSE. Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM DataLogger. Monitor the PAM transmission range PID (TRANSGR). Does the PID indicate YES (transmission in reverse)? Yes : GO to A4. No : REFER to «AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50/6F55»(ref-494558) .
- A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Ignition OFF. Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

- B1 RETRIEVE THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Check the PAM DTCs from the self-test. Are multiple DTCs recorded? Yes : GO to B2. No : For DTC B1B44:14, B1B46:14, B1B48:14 or B1B50:14, GO to B3 . For all other DTCs, REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S05420319282012081400000) .
- B2 CHECK THE CONNECTORS FOR CORRECT LATCHING AND THE BUMPER WIRING HARNESS FOR DAMAGE Inspect the PAM and sensor connectors for correct latching by pulling on the latched connector. Inspect the bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion. Are the connectors correctly latched and the bumper wiring harness OK? Yes : GO to B3. No : Correctly LATCH the connectors or REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- B3 CHECK THE SENSOR CIRCUITRY FOR OPENS Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Suspect Parking Aid Sensor C4009, C4010, C4011 or C4012. Disconnect: PAM C4014. Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

PINPOINT TEST D: DTCs B1B44:96, B1B46:96, B1B48:96 AND B1B50:96
- D1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Check the PAM DTCs from the self-test. Are parking aid DTCs other than B1B44:96, B1B46:96, B1B48:96 and B1B50:96 recorded? Yes : DIAGNOSE the other DTCs first. REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S05420319282012081400000) . No : GO to D2.
- D2 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR OPERATION NOTE: Make sure the area around the vehicle is clear of anything that can activate the parking aid system. Clean the rear bumper and sensors with high-pressure water. Carry out the azimuth system check. Refer to «AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-494633-S00398506042012081400000) . Carry out the elevation system check. Refer to «ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK»(ref-494633-S25506006552012081400000) . Does the parking aid system pass both system checks? Yes : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a dirty or blocked parking aid sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to D3.
- D3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS Install a new sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor. Ignition ON. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the self-test. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : GO to D4. No : The cause of the concern was an inoperative parking aid sensor. The system is now operating correctly.
- D4 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B48:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to E3. No : INSTALL a new LH outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(ref-494633-S37546780112012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E3 CHECK THE RH OUTER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4011. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B44:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to E4. No : INSTALL a new RH outer parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(ref-494633-S37546780112012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK THE LH INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4010. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B50:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to E5. No : INSTALL a new LH inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(ref-494633-S37546780112012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E5 CHECK THE RH INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT Ignition OFF. Disconnect: Parking Aid Sensor C4012. Ignition ON. NOTE: It is normal for the sensor open signal DTC B1B46:14 to set when carrying out this step. It can be ignored. Clear the DTCs. Repeat the on-demand self-test. Is DTC B1B58:11 still present? Yes : GO to E6. No : INSTALL a new RH inner parking aid sensor. REFER to «PARKING AID SENSOR»(ref-494633-S37546780112012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E6 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Ignition OFF. Disconnect: PAM C4014. Measure the resistance between the PAM C4014-9, circuit LMP07 (BU/WH), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to E7. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E7 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT AND GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TOGETHER Measure the resistance between the PAM C4014-9, circuit LMP07 (BU/WH), harness side and the PAM C4014-12, circuit RMP07 (GN/WH). Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to E8. No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Connect: All Disconnected Connectors. Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

- F1 CHECK THE SPEAKER CONNECTOR FOR CORRECT LATCHING Ignition OFF. Inspect the PAM speaker connector for correct latching by pulling on the latched connector. Is the connector latched? Yes : GO to F2. No : Correctly LATCH the connector. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F2 MEASURE THE PARKING AID SPEAKER RESISTANCE Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C3268. Measure the resistance between the parking aid speaker pin 2, component side and the parking aid speaker pin 1, component side. Is the resistance between 40 and 60 ohms? Yes : For DTC B1B52:14, GO to F3. For DTC B1B52:12, GO to F7 . No : INSTALL a new parking aid speaker. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Connect: Parking Aid Speaker C3268. Disconnect: PAM C4014. Measure the resistance between the PAM C4014-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : GO to F5 . No : GO to F4.
- F4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE PARKING AID SPEAKER DISCONNECTED Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C3268. Measure the resistance between the PAM C4014-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and ground. Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? Yes : REPAIR circuit RMP09 (BU/GN). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : REPAIR circuit CMP09 (BN/BU). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F5 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (+) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Parking Aid Speaker C3268. Measure the resistance between the parking aid speaker C3268-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side and the PAM C4014-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/BU), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to F6. No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F6 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER (-) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between the parking aid speaker C3268-1, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side and the PAM C4014-6, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to F8 . No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- F7 CHECK THE PARKING AID SPEAKER CIRCUITRY FOR SHORTS TO VOLTAGE Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the PAM C4014-2, circuit CMP09 (BN/ BU), harness side and ground; and between the PAM C4014-6, circuit RMP09 (BU/GN), harness side and ground. Is any voltage present? Yes : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to F8.
- F8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION Connect: All Disconnected Connectors. Disconnect the PAM connector. Check for: corrosion damaged pins pushed-out pins Connect the PAM connector and make sure it seats correctly. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? Yes : INSTALL a new PAM. REFER to «PARKING AID MODULE (PAM)»(ref-494633-S09206640332012081400000) . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- Verify the customer concern.

- If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- If the scan tool still does not communicate with the VCM: check the VCM connection to the vehicle. check the scan tool connection to the VCM. refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-494551) , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
- If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle: verify the ignition key is in the RUN position. verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle. refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-494551) , The PCM Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.
- Carry out the network test. If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(ref-494551) . If the network passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory DTCs.
- Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the BCM and «Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM)»(ref-494633-S16255089352012081400000) .
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S05420319282012081400000) . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in «MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES»(ref-494579) .
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to «SYMPTOM CHART»(ref-494633-S08086052332012081400000) .

Is the video camera concern still present? Yes : GO to G4. No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a dirty video camera lens.
- G4 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION Check the operation of the reversing lamps. Do the reversing lamps operate correctly? Yes : GO to G5. No : REFER to «EXTERIOR LIGHTING»(ref-494583) .
- G5 CHECK THE FDIM DISPLAY Observe the FDIM while placing the vehicle in reverse. While selecting reverse and waiting up to 30 seconds, does the FDIM screen switch to video camera mode and display "Please Contact Your Dealership"? Yes : The FDIM display is functional. There is no signal from the video camera. GO to G6. No : RETRIEVE and FOLLOW APIM DTCs. REFER to «INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS»(ref-494606) .
- G6 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS INTEGRITY Ignition OFF. Disconnect: APIM C2383. Measure the resistance between the APIM C2383-14, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the APIM C2383-15, circuit RMP19 (BN/VT), harness side. Is the resistance between 74 and 106 ohms? Yes : GO to G7. No : GO to G9 .
- G7 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN Disconnect: Video Camera C4357. Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between the video camera C4357-1, circuit CBP34 (VT/BN), harness side and ground. Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? Yes : GO to G8. No : VERIFY the BCM fuse 34 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEMS WIRING DIAGRAMS article to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.

Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-5, circuit GD143 (BK/VT), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? Yes : GO to H4. No : REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H4 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-4, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and ground; and between the video camera C4357-3, circuit RMP19 (BN/VT), harness side and ground. - I1 VERIFY THE VISUAL PARK AID IS ENABLED Verify that the visual park aid is enabled in the FDIM. Is the visual park aid enable in the FDIM? Yes : GO to I2. No : ENABLE the visual park aid. TEST the system for normal operation.
- I2 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST Check the PAM DTCs from the self-test. Are any PAM DTCs recorded? Yes : REPAIR all PAM DTCs first. REFER to «PARKING AID»(ref-494633-S39724657982012081400000) . TEST the system for normal operation. No : GO to I3.
- I3 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST Check the BCM DTCs from the self-test. Are any BCM DTCs recorded? Yes : REFER to «DTC CHARTS»(ref-494633-S34485553752012081400000) . No : GO to I4.
- I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT VIDEO CAMERA OPERATION Connect: All Disconnected Connectors. Disconnect the video camera connector. Note. The object used in this system check can be fabricated from 9 cm O.D. (3 in I.D) plastic pipe 100 cm (39 in) in length (available as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe, or similar from a hardware or plumbing supply).
Note. The following system check should be carried out with the vehicle on a level surface. The specified object locations are approximate, not absolute
Note. The parking aid system defaults to on when the ignition key is cycled from OFF to ON.
Note. The scan tool may be used to monitor distance PIDs. The distance PIDs read between 0 and 255 cm (0 and 8 ft) on a correctly functioning system.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position, engine off.
- Set the parking brake on.
- Place the gear shift in REVERSE (R).
- Verify that the parking aid system detects the specified object when placed within the 5 specified locations (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5). The pipe should be inside of these locations. The speaker should beep slowly when objects are detected on the outer edges of the detection zone, and increase as the object is moved closer to the vehicle. When the object is within 46 cm (18 in) of the rear bumper, the sounder should be on continuously. If the Parking Aid Module (PAM) does not detect the object above, refer to «PARKING AID»(ref-494633-S39724657982012081400000) in the Diagnosis and Testing portion of this article.
