Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
- If the concern is not visually evident, verify the symptom. GO to «SYMPTOM CHART - EXTERNAL CONTROLS»(ref-494610-S11898981282012081400000) or GO to «SYMPTOM CHART - NVH»(ref-494610-S25847231322012081400000) .

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
| DTC | Component | Description | Condition | Symptom | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B1319:11 | Brake shift interlock | Brake shift interlock output circuit short to ground | The associated circuitry connected to the BCM or fuse, or the BCM itself may have an issue causing a brake shift interlock concern. | Brake shift interlock is inoperative or does not operate correctly. | GO to PINPOINT TEST A . |
| B1319:15 | Brake shift interlock | Brake shift interlock output circuit short to power or open | The associated circuitry connected to the Body Control Module (BCM) or fuse, or the BCM itself may have an issue causing a brake shift interlock concern. | Brake shift interlock is inoperative or does not operate correctly. | GO to PINPOINT TEST A . |
| P0815 | Upshift switch circuit | Upshift switch concerns, open or shorted circuit | The associated circuitry to the PCM or PCM malfunction. | Upshift switch inoperative | For floor shifter, GO to PINPOINT TEST B . For steering wheel, GO to PINPOINT TEST C . |
| P0816 | Downshift switch circuit | Downshift switch concerns, open or shorted circuit | The associated circuitry to the PCM or PCM malfunction. | Downshift switch inoperative | For floor shifter, GO to PINPOINT TEST B . For steering wheel, GO to PINPOINT TEST C . |

Symptom Chart - External Controls
| Condition | Possible Sources | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Brake shift interlock system does not release/lock correctly | Circuitry open or shorted to ground Fuse Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) damaged Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch Transmission Range (TR) sensor | GO to PINPOINT TEST A . INSTALL a new selector lever assembly. REFER to SELECTOR LEVER . DIAGNOSE and REPAIR all TR sensor DTCs. REFER to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 6F50/6F55 or AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION - 6F35 . |
| TCS does not operate correctly | Instrument Cluster (IC) Circuitry open/shorted PCM TCS | REFER to INSTRUMENTATION, MESSAGE CENTER, AND WARNING CHIMES . GO to PINPOINT TEST D . |
| Selector lever linkage is out of correct gear relationship | Selector lever linkage out of adjustment Manual control lever not aligned correctly on the TR sensor (flat surfaces do not line up) Loose selector lever cable bracket | REFER to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT - 6F35 or SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT - 6F50/6F55 . REMOVE the manual control lever nut and CHECK the alignment of the manual control lever. CHECK the selector lever cable bracket. TIGHTEN as necessary. |
SYMPTOM CHART - EXTERNAL CONTROLS
Symptom Chart - NVH
Note. NVH symptoms should be identified using the diagnostic tools that are available. For a list of these tools, an explanation of their uses and a glossary of common terms, refer to NOISE, VIBRATION & HARSHNESS . Since it is possible any one of multiple systems may be the cause of a symptom, it may be necessary to use a process of elimination type of diagnostic approach to pinpoint the responsible system. If this is not the causal system for the symptom, refer back to NOISE, VIBRATION & HARSHNESS for the next likely system and continue diagnosis.
| Condition | Possible Sources | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Vibration - a high frequency (20-80 Hz) that is felt through the seat or selector lever. Changes with engine speed | Selector lever cable incorrectly routed, grounded out or loose | CHECK the selector lever cable. REPAIR as necessary. |
