Fuel Tank and Lines

The fuel system consists of the following components

  1. Fuel tank: The midship fuel tank is between the frame side rails on the LH side The aft-of-axle fuel tank is mounted at the rear of the vehicle between the frame rails
  2. Fuel tank filler pipe which contains a restrictor plate to permit only unleaded fuel to be pumped into the fuel tank
  3. Quarter-turn fuel tank filler cap
  4. Fuel tubes
  5. Vapor tubes
  6. Fuel Pump (FP) and sender assembly which provides filtered, pressurized fuel to the engine and a signal to indicate fuel level to the instrument cluster, and contains: a serviceable fuel sender. an inlet filter. a check valve that maintains system pressure after the FP is shut off. a lifetime fuel filter.

The FP is controlled by the PCM which energizes the Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM). Electrical power to the pump is provided through the FPCM.

WARNINGDo not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGDo not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGWhen handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNINGBefore working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
