Removal and Installation

VEHICLES WITH 4.6L, 5.4L OR 6.8L ENGINE

  1. Disconnect the battery. For additional information, refer to «BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES»(ref-210181) .
  2. Remove the battery (10655).
  3. Remove the battery tray. Remove the screws. Remove the battery tray.
  4. Move the junction block assembly. Remove the three screws.
  5. Move the suction accumulator (19C836). Remove the three screws. Move the suction accumulator.
  6. Remove the blower motor (19805). Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector. Remove the blower motor housing tube (19A786). Remove four screws. Remove the retaining clip. Remove the blower motor.
  7. Remove the blower motor wheel. Remove the retaining clip. Remove the blower motor wheel.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

  1. Remove the heater core. For additional information, refer to «HEATER CORE»(ref-210170-S39763472722005121400000) .
  2. Remove the nuts and the heater core housing. Disconnect the temperature blend door actuator electrical connector.
  3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Note. If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be pressure leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .

  1. Drain the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-210139) .
  2. Disconnect the heater hoses at the heater core.
  3. Remove the instrument panel finish panel.
  4. Remove the bolts and the instrument panel reinforcement.
  5. Remove the bolts and the instrument panel reinforcement bracket.
  6. Remove the screws and position the wire harness aside.
  7. Remove the screws and the heater core cover.
  8. Remove the heater core.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only, if needed.
  10. Fill the engine cooling system. For additional information, refer to «ENGINE COOLING»(ref-210139) .

  1. Remove the seal.
  2. Remove the seals.
  3. Drain the heater core.
  4. Remove the temperature blend door actuator motor (19E616). Remove the screws. Remove the temperature blend door actuator motor.
  5. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.

  1. Remove the evaporator core housing. For additional information, refer to «EVAPORATOR CORE HOUSING»(ref-210170-S15922260642005121400000) .
  2. Remove the blower motor (19805). Remove the blower motor housing tube (19A786). Remove the four screws. Remove the retaining clip. Remove the blower motor.
  3. Remove the heater blower motor switch resistor (18591). Remove the two screws. Remove the heater blower motor switch resistor.
  4. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.

  1. Remove the heater core housing. For additional information, refer to «AUXILIARY HEATER CORE HOUSING»(ref-210170-S38657943612005121400000) .
  2. Remove the evaporator core. For additional information, refer to «AIR CONDITIONING»(ref-210171) .
  3. Detach the wire harness. Remove the nut and stud. Disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the electrical connector and position the wire harness aside.
  4. Remove the suction accumulator. Remove the nuts. Remove the suction accumulator.
  5. Remove the washer reservoir. Remove the nut. Remove the bolt. Remove the washer reservoir. Disconnect the washer hose and washer pump electrical connector.
  6. Disconnect the blower motor electrical connector.
  7. Disconnect the blower motor resistor electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the vacuum connector and detach the wire harness pin-type retainer.
  9. Remove the screws and position the wire harness aside.
  10. Position the auxiliary A/C lines aside (if equipped). Remove the bolt. Position the auxiliary A/C lines aside.
  11. Working from inside the vehicle, remove the three nuts.
  12. Position the evaporator core housing forward and remove the two fresh air inlet duct screws.
  13. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. Remove the screw. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. Detach the vacuum line retainer.
  14. Deflect the LH battery tray bracket (4.6L, 5.4L or 6.8L) or the LH junction box bracket (6.0L Diesel) to provide clearance for evaporator core housing removal.
  15. Remove the evaporator core housing.
  16. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
