Module Controlled Functions
The multifunction modules consist of the following
- air suspension module
- driver door module (DDM)
- lighting control module (LCM)
The air suspension module is linked to its own data link connector (DLC). The air suspension module controls the air suspension system and the electronic variable orifice (EVO) steering.
The (DDM) is connected to the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communication network. The DDM controls many functions including power door locks and remote keyless entry.
The (LCM) is connected to the ISO 9141 communication network. The LCM controls both interior and exterior lighting, backlighting, the battery saver and warning chimes.

Principles of Operation
Vehicles that are not equipped with air suspension have a stand-alone variable assist power steering (VAPS) module. For additional information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
The air suspension module is linked to its own data link connector (DLC). The air suspension module controls the air suspension and the VAPS. For additional air suspension system information, refer to VEHICLE DYNAMIC .
The air suspension module is used to monitor and control the VAPS system. The VAPS system controls the level of power assistance available to the driver based on vehicle speed and rate of change in steering position. For additional VAPS system information, refer to STEERING SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern by operating the system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage. VISUAL INSPECTION Electrical Battery junction box (BJB) fuse 114 (30A) Central junction box (CJB) fuse 16 (15A) Wiring harness Connector(s) Circuitry Air suspension module
- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle: check that the program card is correctly installed. check the connections to the vehicle. check the ignition position.
- If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
- Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the diagnostic tool responds with: CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NORESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to «MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/communication-devices/#module-communications-network-system) . NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIP for AIR SUSP, Go To «PINPOINT TEST A»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system) . SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the ASM.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART»(/ford/crown-victoria/ii-1997-2011/remont/communication-devices/#multifunction-electronic-modules-system__diagnostic-trouble-code-chart) to continue diagnostics.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, refer to the appropriate section of the Workshop Manual to continue diagnostics.

The lighting control module (LCM) is a microprocessor-based module that controls several vehicle subsystems. The LCM responds to electrical input signals from various switches, sensors, and external modules. The LCM is located under the LH side of the instrument panel. Subsystem functions of the LCM include headlamps with autolamps, turn signal lamps/hazard flasher lamps, cornering lamps, parking lamps, courtesy lamps, demand lamps, battery saver and control backlighting.
