TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Transmission Shift Control Linkage
The transmission shift control linkage consists of
- a gearshift lever (7210) which connects to the transmission column shift selector tube (7212) on the steering column. A gearshift lever pin (7G357) secures the gearshift lever to the selector tube.
- a shift cable and bracket (7E395) which connects to the transmission selector lever arm and support (7302) on the steering column and to the manual control lever (7A256) on the transmission. The shift cable bracket bolts to the transmission.
Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system consists of
- a shift lock actuator (3F752). A transmission shift selector position insert (7A216), which bolts to the steering actuator housing (3F723), secures the shift lock actuator to the steering column.
- electrical circuits to supply power to lock and unlock the shift lock actuator.
The shift lock actuator locks the gearshift lever in PARK
- when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the LOCK position.
- with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal released.
The shift lock actuator releases the gearshift lever
- when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the FIRST position.
- with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal actuated.
Transmission Control Switch (TCS)
The transmission control switch (TCS)
- is located on the end of the gearshift lever. The TCS is not removable from the gearshift lever. Install a new gearshift lever if a new TCS is required.
- is a momentary contact switch.
- commands the powertrain control module (PCM) to disengage or engage the overdrive function of the transmission. When overdrive (D) is disengaged, the message O/D OFF will illuminate on the instrument panel.
The transmission shift control linkage consists of
- a floor console mounted shifter mechanism. A shift handle that is retained on the shifter by two attaching screws.
- a shift cable and bracket which connects to the floor console mounted shifter assembly to the manual control lever on the transmission. The shift cable bracket bolts to the transmission.
The shift interlock system consists of
- a shift lock actuator. A transmission shift lock actuator, which clips to the actuator retainer, securing the shift lock actuator to the steering column. A transmission shift lock actuator cable which routes to the floor console mounted shifter assembly lock mechanism.
- electrical circuits to supply power to lock and unlock the shift lock actuator.
The shift lock mechanism locks the gearshift lever in PARK
- when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the LOCK position.
- with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal released.
The shift lock actuator releases the gearshift lever
- when the ignition switch lock cylinder is in the FIRST position.
- with the ignition switch lock cylinder in the RUN position and the brake pedal actuated.
The transmission control switch (TCS)
- is located in the shifter handle. The TCS is removable from the gearshift handle without disassembly of the console or shifter unit.
- is a momentary contact switch.
- commands the powertrain control module (PCM) to disengage or engage the overdrive function of the transmission. When overdrive (D) is disengaged, the message O/D OFF will illuminate on the instrument panel.
