Module Network Input Messages - Passenger Door Module (PDM)

Passenger Mirror CommandDDMWhen the exterior mirror control switch requests movement of the RH exterior mirror, the DDM sends the request to the PDM to drive the RH exterior mirror motor in the desired direction.

The power mirror system allows the LH and RH exterior mirror glass to be positioned electronically. When the exterior mirror control switch is pressed in any direction and the LH mirror is selected with the exterior mirror selection switch, the DDM supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate LH exterior mirror motors. When the exterior mirror control switch is pressed in any direction and the RH mirror is selected with the exterior mirror selection switch, the DDM forwards the movement requests to the PDM using the passenger mirror command message on the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). Based on the message, the PDM supplies voltage and ground to the appropriate RH exterior mirror motors.

Outer Mirror Defrost CommandBCMUsed for activation and deactivation of the heated exterior mirror glass.

The rear window defrost switch controls operation of the heated exterior mirror glass. The heated exterior mirror glass only operates when the rear window defrost system is active. To turn the heated exterior mirrors on and off, the BCM sends the outer mirror defrost command message over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to the DDM and PDM. When the heated exterior mirror glass is commanded on, the DDM supplies voltage to the LH heated exterior mirror glass and the PDM supplies voltage to the RH heated exterior mirror glass.

This vehicle may be equipped with a manual or auto-dimming interior rear view mirror. The manual dimming mirror operation is controlled by the driver. The lever at the bottom of the mirror is pushed forward or pulled rearward to change the reflectance level of the interior rear view mirror glass.

The interior auto-dimming rear view mirror automatically reduces the glare caused by headlamps reflecting in the interior rear view mirror. Voltage is supplied to the interior auto-dimming rear view mirror when the ignition is ON.

The interior auto-dimming rear view mirror uses 2 photoelectric sensors to detect ambient lighting conditions. When the forward facing sensor detects daytime conditions, the rearward facing sensor is inactive and the mirror stays in a high reflectance mode. When the forward facing sensor detects nighttime conditions, the rearward facing sensor is active and is used to detect glare from the headlights of vehicles approaching from the rear, or other glare producing light sources. When glare is detected from behind the vehicle, the mirror glass is electronically darkened. To provide increased visibility when backing up, the interior auto-dimming rear view mirror automatically returns to a high reflectance mode whenever the vehicle is in REVERSE, regardless of the ambient lighting conditions.

Exterior Mirror Control Switch

The exterior mirror control switch is a momentary contact switch that is integral to the master window control switch and connected to the DDM through a LIN circuit. The exterior mirror control switch incorporates a selection switch to allow the driver to determine which exterior mirror is adjusted. Because this switch uses network communication, it can only be tested by monitoring DDM PIDs.

Exterior Mirror

For the power mirror function, each exterior mirror has 2 bi-directional motors that are used to control the horizontal and vertical position of the exterior mirror glass.

The heated exterior mirrors use heating elements that are integral to the exterior mirror glass.

The exterior mirrors use a jumper harness between the vehicle wiring harness and the exterior mirror motors and the heated mirror glass. The exterior mirror jumper harness is integral to the exterior mirror. Before replacing an exterior mirror, motor or glass, inspect the jumper harness for opens, shorted circuits or damaged and pushed-out pins. If a concern with the exterior mirror jumper harness exists, attempt to repair the jumper harness.

Driver Door Module (DDM)

For the power mirror function, the DDM receives exterior mirror movement requests through the LIN circuit from the master window control switch. The DDM then provides voltage and ground to the appropriate LH exterior mirror motor to drive the mirror glass in the desired direction.

When the master window control switch requests RH exterior mirror functions, the DDM sends the requests to the PDM through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).

For the heated mirror function, the DDM supplies voltage to the LH exterior mirror glass heating element based on messages received the BCM .

The DDM is capable of setting and storing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for the LH exterior mirror circuits when a concern exists.

Passenger Door Module (PDM)

For the power mirror function, the PDM controls the RH exterior mirror glass position by supplying voltage and ground to the RH mirror motors based on the messages received from the DDM through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN).

For the heated mirror function, the PDM supplies voltage to the RH exterior mirror glass heating element based on messages received the BCM .

The PDM is capable of setting and storing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) for the LH exterior mirror circuits when a concern exists.

The auto-dimming rear view mirror has 2 photoelectric sensors, forward facing and rearward facing, that detect forward and rearward light conditions. Based on inputs from these sensors, the automatic dimming feature adjusts the reflectance level of the interior rear view mirror glass to eliminate unwanted glare. The reflectance level of the mirror glass is variable and depends on the amount of rear glare in relation to ambient light conditions in front of the interior mirror.
