WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY
Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch is part of multi-function switch. Remove steering column upper and lower shroud and disconnect multi-function switch connector. See WIPER SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure continuity between switch terminals at each switch position. Refer to WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY. (Scheme 7)

WIPER/WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY

- Check fuse No. 10 in junction block and fuse "C" in power distribution center. (Scheme 8)and (Scheme 9). If fuses are good, go to step 2). If either fuse is defective, replace and check motor operation in all switch positions. If motor is still inoperative and fuses are okay, go to step 2). If replacement fuse is blown, go to step 12).
- Disconnect motor wire connector. To check motor low speed, using 2 jumper wires, connect one jumper between positive battery terminal and motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). Connect other jumper wire to negative battery terminal and motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). (Scheme 10) To check motor high speed, connect positive jumper to terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire) of motor connector. Connect negative jumper wire to terminal No. 4 (Black wire) of motor connector. If motor runs, go to step 4). If motor does not run, high or low speed, go to next step.
- Using an ohmmeter, check for good ground at terminal No. 4 (Black wire) of motor wiring harness connector. (Scheme 10) If okay, replace motor. If ground is not okay, repair ground circuit as necessary.
- Turn wiper switch to ON position. Turn ignition from OFF to ON position to reset body control module. Check for battery voltage at terminal "D" (Red/Dark Blue wire) of intermittent wiper relay in power distribution center. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present, check fuse "C" in power distribution center. (Scheme 9) If not okay, repair as necessary.
- Check for continuity between HI-LO wiper relay terminal "D" (Red/Yellow wire) and motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). Check for continuity between HI-LO wiper relay terminal "E" (Brown/White wire) and motor harness connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.
- Check for continuity between HI-LO wiper relay terminal "B" (Light Green/Black wire) and intermittent wiper relay terminal "B" (Light Green/Black wire). If continuity exists, check for faulty relays. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Bone 24-pin J3 connector from body control module and go to next step. (Scheme 11)
- Check for continuity between Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow wire) and intermittent wiper relay terminal "C" (Dark Green/Yellow wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.
- Connect wiper switch. Connect voltmeter positive lead to Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 16 (Dark Green/Red wire). Turn ignition to ON position. Slowly move wiper switch from OFF position through each position to HIGH position. If zero voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage increases from zero volts to approximately 10-volts, replace body control module.
- Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between wiper switch connector terminal No. 1 (Dark Green/Red wire) and Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 16 (Dark Green/Red wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair circuit as necessary.
- Disconnect wiper switch connector. Connect voltmeter positive lead to wiper switch connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue wire). Turn ignition on. If battery voltage exists, replace wiper switch. If battery voltage does not exist, check circuit continuity between wiper switch connector terminal No. 3 and fuse No. 10 in junction block.
- Disconnect motor connector and replace fuse No. 10 in junction block. If fuse does not blow, go to step 2). If fuse blows, wiper control circuitry is at fault. Repair as necessary.
MOTOR RUNS SLOWLY AT ALL SPEEDS
- Disconnect wire connector at motor. Remove wiper arms and blades. Disconnect motor drive link from motor. Connect an ammeter between positive battery terminal and motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). Connect ground wire to motor connector terminal No. 4. (Scheme 10)and (Scheme 12).
- If motor runs and average ammeter reading is more than 6 amps, replace motor. If motor runs and average ammeter reading is less than 6 amps, check wiper linkage and pivots for binding or catching. When replacing drive link nut tighten to 98-106 INCH lbs. (11-12 N.m).

MOTOR WILL RUN AT ONE SPEED, BUT NOT MOVE AT OTHER SPEED
- If motor will not run on low speed, go to next step. If motor will not run on high speed, go to step 3).
- Disconnect motor connector. Using a jumper wire, connect battery voltage to motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). Connect a second jumper wire between ground and motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). (Scheme 10) If motor runs, go to step 4). If motor does not run, replace motor.
- If motor will not run on high speed, disconnect motor connector. Using a jumper wire, connect battery voltage to motor connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). Connect a second jumper wire between ground and motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). If motor runs, go to step 5). If motor does not run, replace motor.
- Check continuity between terminal "E" of HI-LO wiper relay and wiper motor harness connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.
- Check continuity between terminal "D" of HI-LO wiper relay and wiper motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire). If continuity exists, check for faulty HI-LO wiper relay. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.
WIPERS RUN AT HIGH SPEED WITH SWITCH IN LOW SPEED POSITION. WIPERS OPERATE IN INTERMITTENT MODE, BUT EACH WIPE IS AT HIGH SPEED
- Disconnect motor connector. Using a jumper wire, connect battery voltage to motor connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire). Connect a second jumper wire between ground and motor connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire). (Scheme 10) If motor runs at low speed, go to next step. If motor runs at high speed, check for crossed wires at motor wire connector terminals No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire) and No. 3 (Brown/White wire). (Scheme 10)
- Check for faulty HI-LO wiper relay. Check for crossed wires in harness between HI-LO relay and motor. Using an ohmmeter, check for short to ground.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector and remove intermittent wiper relay. (Scheme 9)and (Scheme 11). Check Violet wire circuit between body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 18 and HI-LO relay connector terminal "C". If Violet circuit is okay and none of above conditions are present, replace body control module.
WIPERS RUN AT LOW SPEED WITH SWITCH IN HIGH SPEED POSITION
Check for faulty HI-LO wiper relay. Using an ohmmeter, check for open circuit between terminal "C" of HI-LO wiper relay and body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 18 (Violet wire). (Scheme 11) If okay, check wiper switch and/or binding linkage. Repair as necessary. See MOTOR RUNS SLOWLY AT ALL SPEEDS.
MOTOR CONTINUES RUNNING WITH SWITCH IN OFF POSITION
- Check wiper motor wiring harness for shorts between low speed motor feed terminal No. 3 (Brown/White wire) or high speed motor feed terminal No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire) and battery or ignition.
- Check for faulty wiper intermittent relay or HI-LO relay. Check circuit from intermittent relay cavity "B" to HI-LO relay cavity "B" (Light Green/Black wire) for short to battery or ignition.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector. (Scheme 11) Check Dark Green/Yellow wire circuit between Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 1 and intermittent wiper relay terminal "C" for short to ground.
- Connect voltmeter positive lead to body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 16 (Dark Green/Red wire). Connect voltmeter negative lead to ground. Turn ignition on. If voltmeter reads more than zero volts, check wiper switch and wiring.
- Connect voltmeter positive lead to body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). If voltmeter reads 10-15 volts, check circuit for short to battery or ignition. If voltmeter reads zero volts, replace body control module.
WIPER WILL RUN CONTINUOUSLY WITH SWITCH IN INTERMITTENT POSITION. WHEN COLUMN SWITCH IS TURNED OFF, WIPERS STOP WHEREVER THEY ARE, WITHOUT RETURNING TO PARK POSITION
- Check for ground at wiper motor wire connector terminal No. 1 (Tan/Red wire). Check continuity between motor connector terminals No. 1 (Tan/Red wire) and No. 4 (Black wire), with wiper motor in PARK position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace motor.
- Check for continuity between motor harness connector terminal No. 1 and body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Red wire). Using a voltmeter, check for short circuit to a battery source or ignition feed in this circuit.
WIPERS DO NOT RUN WHEN WASHER MOTOR IS ENGAGED
Turn ignition off. Disconnect body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector. Connect voltmeter positive lead to body control module Bone 24-pin J3 connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). Engage washer switch so that washer runs continuously. If voltage is zero, check wiring between washer motor and body control module. repair as necessary. If voltage is 10-15 volts, replace body control module.
