Wiper System & Washer System (Except Coupe): Other Dodge Stratus I

Washer System Operates Intermittently

Check for loose harness connection or faulty switch.

Washer System Output Is Low

Check for pinched or blocked hose.

Wiper Blades Do Not Park Correctly

Check wiper arm adjustment, arms loose at pivot shaft or loose motor crank at output shaft.

Wiper Motor Stops In Any Position When Switch Is Turned Off

Check for open park circuit.

Wiper Motor Will Not Stop When Switch Is Turned Off

Check for faulty switch or wiper relay.

Wiper Blades Slap Against Cowl Screen Or Window Moldings

Check for wiper arms incorrectly parked.

Wiper Blade Chatter

Check for worn or dirty blades, twisted wiper arm, bent blade or weather checked blade.

Wiper Motor Will Not Operate

Check wiper fuse, short in harness or switch, faulty motor, open power supply or ground circuits or poor ground.

Motor Runs Slowly At All Speeds

  1. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Remove wiper arm and blade assemblies. Disconnect motor drive link from motor. Connect ammeter between negative battery terminal and wiper motor harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire). Connect battery positive wire to wiper motor harness connector terminal "B" (Brown/Orange wire).
  2. If average ammeter reading is more than 6 amps, replace wiper motor. If motor runs and average ammeter reading is less than 6 amps, go to next step.
  3. Check to see if wiper linkage or pivots are binding or caught. When replacing drive link nut, tighten nut to 98-106 INCH lbs. (11-12 N.m).

Motor Will Run At High Speed, But Will Not Move At Low Speed Or Motor Will Run At Low Speed, But Will Not Move At High Speed

  1. Disconnect wiper motor connector. If motor will not run on low speed, connect a jumper wire between positive battery terminal and wiper motor terminal "B". Connect another jumper wire between ground and wiper motor terminal "C". (Схема №5) If motor runs, go to next step. If motor does not run, replace wiper motor.
  2. If motor will not run on high speed, connect jumper wire between positive battery terminal and wiper motor terminal "A". Connect second jumper wire between ground and wiper motor terminal "C". (Схема №5) If motor runs, go to next step. If motor does not run, replace wiper motor.
  3. If wipers will not run at low speed, use ohmmeter to check continuity between HI/LO wiper relay terminal No. 11 and wiper motor harness connector terminal "B" (Brown/Orange wire). (Схема №4) If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.
  4. If wipers will not run at high speed, use ohmmeter to check continuity between HI/LO wiper relay terminal No. 28 and wiper motor harness connector terminal "A" (Red/Yellow wire). (Схема №4) If continuity exists, check for faulty HI/LO wiper relay. If continuity does not exist, repair as necessary.

Wipers Run At High Speed With Switch In Low Speed Position. Wipers Operate In Intermittent Mode, But Each Wipe Is At High Speed

  1. Disconnect wiper motor connector. If motor will not run on low speed, connect jumper wire between positive battery terminal and wiper motor terminal "B". Connect another jumper wire between ground and wiper motor terminal "C". (Схема №5) If motor runs in low speed, go to next step. If motor runs in high speed, replace wiper motor.
  2. Check for faulty HI/LO wiper relay. Check for crossed wires in harness from HI/LO wiper relay and wiper motor. Disconnect BCM Black 14-pin connector. Remove intermittent wiper relay from PDC. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and BCM Black 14-pin connector terminal No. 8. (Схема №6) If continuity exists, repair as necessary. If continuity does not exist, replace BCM.

Wipers Run At Low Speed With Switch In High Speed Position

Check for faulty HI/LO wiper relay. Using ohmmeter, check for open circuit between HI/LO wiper relay terminal No. 12 and BCM Black 14-pin connector terminal No. 8. (Схема №4)and (Схема №6). If circuit is open, repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, check for faulty wiper switch. Check for binding linkage. Repair as necessary. If switch and linkage are okay, go to MOTOR RUNS SLOWLY AT ALL SPEEDS under SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS.

Motor Continues To Run With Switch In Off Position

Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and BCM Black 14-pin connector terminal No. 8 when wipers are in park position. (Схема №6) If continuity does not exist, check wiper motor. If continuity exists, check wiper switch. See WIPER SWITCH TEST. If wiper switch is okay, replace BCM.

Wiper Runs Continuously With Switch In Intermittent Position. When Wiper Switch Is Turned Off, Wipers Stop Without Returning To Park Position

  1. Using ohmmeter, check for continuity between ground and wiper motor terminal "D". (Схема №5) If not grounded, go to next step. If grounded, replace wiper motor.
  2. With motor in park position, check for continuity between wiper motor terminals "C" and "D". If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace wiper motor.
  3. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Disconnect BCM Black 14-pin connector. Check for continuity between wiper motor harness connector terminal "D" (White/Gray wire) and BCM Black 14-pin connector terminal No. 2. (Схема №6) If continuity does not exist, repair open in White/Gray wire between wiper motor and BCM. If continuity exists, test wiper motor.

Wipers Do Not Run When Washer Motor Is Turned On

  1. Disconnect BCM Black 14-pin connector. Using voltmeter, connect positive lead to BCM Black 14-pin connector terminal No. 10 and negative lead to ground. (Схема №6)
  2. Engage washer switch so washer motor runs continuously. If reading is zero volts, check wiring between washer motor and BCM. Repair as necessary. If battery voltage exists, replace BCM.

Wipers Operate In Intermittent Settings But Do Not Have 6 Different Speeds

For complete multifunction switch testing, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article in the ACCESSORIES/SAFETY EQUIPMENT section. To test wiper switch, see WIPER SWITCH TEST.
