SERVICE INTERVALS
Check transaxle fluid level once a month or when performing other underhood services. Under normal service conditions, change transaxle fluid and replace transaxle filter every 30,000 miles or at 24 month intervals. Under severe service conditions, change transaxle fluid and replace transaxle filter every 15,000 miles.
CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
- Drive vehicle until engine and transaxle reach normal operating temperature. Park vehicle on level surface. Apply parking brake. Turn engine off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). (Scheme 89)
- Start engine. Select TRANSMISSION, then SENSORS on scan tool. Read transaxle temperature on scan tool. Using transaxle temperature displayed on scan tool, determine proper fluid level on dipstick. (Scheme 90) Add appropriate transaxle fluid if necessary. See «RECOMMENDED FLUID»(ref-124587-S19275328202001100200000). DO NOT overfill. Turn engine off. Remove scan tool.

DRAINING & REFILLING
- Drive vehicle a minimum of 10 miles to ensure transaxle reaches normal operating temperature. Turn engine off. Raise and support vehicle. Loosen oil pan bolts. Tap on one corner of oil pan to loosen and allow fluid to drain. Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan. Remove oil filter and "O" ring from valve body.
- Clean oil pan, magnet and all sealing surfaces. Using NEW "O" ring, install NEW oil filter. Apply RTV sealant to sealing surfaces of oil pan. Install oil pan. Install and tighten oil pan bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-124587-S32279372902001100200000) .
- Add 4.0 Qts. (3.8L) of MOPAR ATF Plus 3, Type 7176 fluid to transaxle. Apply parking brake. Start engine and allow it to idle for at least one minute. With brakes applied, shift transaxle through all gears, ending in Park. Add additional fluid to bring level 1/8" below ADD mark on dipstick. Recheck fluid level with transaxle at normal operating temperature. Adjust fluid level within HOT range on dipstick. DO NOT overfill.
