Note. DTC P1486: EVAP LEAK MON PINCHED HOSE FOUND is monitored after cold start with ambient temperature of 40-90°F (4.4 -32°C) and engine coolant temperature is within 10°F (-12°C) of ambient temperature. If PCM detects a pinched hose, DTC will not set until system monitors EVAP purge flow. If system does not pass, DTC will set. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when EVAP monitor senses no airflow through EVAP system. Possible causes are: blocked fuel tank -to-EVAP canister hose, blocked Leak Detection Pump (LDP) hose, pinched EVAP purge solenoid-to-EVAP canister hose, blocked LDP or blocked EVAP canister.
Note. Replacing PCM will not correct this problem.
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER is displayed and displayed count is "0", go to step 3). If DTC SPECIFIC GOOD TRIP COUNTER is not displayed or displayed count is not "0", go to next step.
- At this time, DTC P1486: EVAP LEAK MON PINCHED HOSE FOUND does not exist or is an intermittent problem. Using scan tool, read and record FREEZE FRAME data. Road test vehicle under conditions in FREEZE FRAME data, paying particular attention to fault setting conditions such as speed, temperature, load and MAP vacuum. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If DTC P1486: EVAP LEAK MON PINCHED HOSE FOUND returns, go to next step. If DTC P1486: EVAP LEAK MON PINCHED HOSE FOUND does not return, see «INACTIVE DTC CONDITION»(ref-139160-S32382818132002042600000) . Test is complete. CAUTION: When performing test procedures, keep lighted cigarettes, sparks, flames and other ignition sources away from test area. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/2 full. Pressurizing fuel tank with less than 3 gallons of gasoline may result in an explosion caused by ignition of fumes. Wear safety glasses during test. If vehicle is not being tested on a hoist, ensure parking brake is applied and all wheels are blocked before starting test. NOTE: Miller EVAP System Testing Kit (6872A) and Supply Hose (6922) are required to perform EVAP system pressure self-test.
- Using EVAP system testing kit, supply hose and instructions printed on EVAP system testing kit cover, perform EVAP system pressure pump self-test. Remove fuel tank cap. Install one end of supply hose on fuel cap, and then install fuel cap on vehicle. Install other end of supply hose on EVAP system testing kit. Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, go to LEAK DETECTION PUMP TEST. Read instructions on scan tool and then press ENTER. Set EVAP system testing kit PRESSURE/HOLD valve to OPEN. Set VENT valve to CLOSED. While monitoring EVAP system testing kit pressure gauge, turn EVAP system testing kit pump timer on. When pressure gauge reads 14 in. H20, remove vacuum connector from EVAP purge solenoid. EVAP purge solenoid is located on a bracket mounted to left front inner fender. If pressure drops when vacuum connector is removed, go to next step. If pressure does not drop when vacuum is remove, go to step 6).
- Using EVAP system testing kit, supply hose and instructions printed on EVAP system testing kit cover, perform EVAP system pressure pump self-test. Remove fuel tank cap. Install one end of supply hose on fuel cap, and then install fuel cap on vehicle. Install other end of supply hose on EVAP system testing kit. Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, go to LEAK DETECTION PUMP TEST. Read instructions on scan tool and then press ENTER. Set EVAP system testing kit PRESSURE/HOLD valve to OPEN. Set VENT valve to CLOSED. While monitoring EVAP system testing kit pressure gauge, turn EVAP system testing kit pump timer on. When pressure gauge reads 14 in. H20, remove LDP pump pressure hose from LDP. LDP is located on a bracket mounted to right front inner fender. If pressure drops when pressure hose is removed, replace LDP. Perform TEST VER-6A. If pressure does not drop when pressure hose is removed, go to next step.
- Inspect LDP hose for damage. Replace LDP hose if necessary. Perform TEST VER-6A. If LDP hose is okay, replace EVAP canister. Perform TEST VER-6A.
- Reconnect vacuum connector at EVAP purge solenoid. Using EVAP system testing kit, supply hose and instructions printed on EVAP system testing kit cover, perform EVAP system pressure pump self-test. Remove fuel tank cap. Install one end of supply hose on fuel cap, and then install fuel cap on vehicle. Install other end of supply hose on EVAP system testing kit. Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, go to LEAK DETECTION PUMP TEST. Read instructions on scan tool and then press ENTER. Set EVAP system testing kit PRESSURE/HOLD valve to OPEN. Set VENT valve to CLOSED. While monitoring EVAP system testing kit pressure gauge, turn EVAP system testing kit pump timer on. When pressure gauge reads 14 in. H20, remove EVAP canister-to-EVAP purge solenoid hose. If pressure drops when hose is removed, repair pinched hose. Perform TEST VER-6A. If pressure does not drop when hose is removed, go to next step.
- Using EVAP system testing kit, supply hose and instructions printed on EVAP system testing kit cover, perform EVAP system pressure pump self-test. Remove fuel tank cap. Install one end of supply hose on fuel cap, and then install fuel cap on vehicle. Install other end of supply hose on EVAP system testing kit. Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, go to LEAK DETECTION PUMP TEST. Read instructions on scan tool and then press ENTER. Set EVAP system testing kit PRESSURE/HOLD valve to OPEN. Set VENT valve to CLOSED. While monitoring EVAP system testing kit pressure gauge, turn EVAP system testing kit pump timer on. When pressure gauge reads 14 in. H20, remove EVAP canister-to-fuel tank hose. If pressure drops when hose is removed, replace EVAP canister. Perform TEST VER-6A. If pressure does not drop when hose is removed, repair pinched hose. Perform TEST VER-6A.
