The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system allows for locking and unlocking of the vehicle doors, and activation of illuminated entry system (for approximately 30 seconds) using a hand-held transmitter. There are 2 different systems. On vehicles with anti-theft, RKE control components and receiver are located in Central Timer Module (CTM). On vehicles without anti-theft, RKE control components and receiver are located in power lock/RKE module.
The module may receive signals from 4 transmitters on vehicles with anti-theft, or 2 transmitters on vehicles without anti-theft. Each transmitter has its own code which is stored in receiver memory. If the transmitter is replaced, code has to be programmed into memory. The receiver is capable of retaining memory even when power is removed. The hand-held transmitter will operate within approximately 23 ft. (7 m) of receiver. The transmitter has 2 replaceable 3-volt batteries (2016 or equivalent).
On vehicles with anti-theft, when lock button is pressed and side or rear door is open, locks will cycle 5 seconds after all doors are closed. System will lock all doors when vehicle speed is greater than 15 MPH. When air bag deploys, an accident response feature will unlock all doors and turn on courtesy lights when vehicle stops moving.
OPERATION
Transmitter has LOCK and UNLOCK buttons only. UNLOCK button will unlock the driver's door and activate the illuminated entry system. On models with anti-theft alarm system, it will also deactivate anti-theft system. Pushing and releasing the button once will unlock the driver's door. Pushing the button twice within 5 seconds will unlock all doors.
The LOCK button will lock all doors and activate anti-theft system (if equipped). When pressed, horn will sound a short chirp to signify the signal was received and doors are locked.
